#Somaliland is here in Jerusalem, alongside nations from around the world, celebrating Sukkot and fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah that all nations will come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
🇮🇱🤝Somaliland
Dear Senator Cruz,
I write to you as an elder citizen of the Republic of Somaliland and as one who personally witnessed the grave suffering endured by my people between 1981 and 1991. Those years are not, for me, merely chapters of history. They are part of my own life. During that dark period, I lost cherished members of my family, as did countless families across Somaliland.
I recount this personal history not simply to revisit the sorrows of the past, but to convey something deeper: where we have come from, what our people have endured, what we have built from the ruins, and why the friendship of those who stand with Somaliland carries such profound meaning to us.
From destruction, displacement, and immeasurable loss, the people of Somaliland rebuilt their country. Through determination, sacrifice, and faith in our future, we restored peace, rebuilt the institutions of government, established democratic processes, and created a degree of stability that earlier generations had struggled greatly to secure.
We accomplished much of this through our own efforts, often while receiving little international recognition for what had been achieved.
It is against this history that your support must be understood.
Senator Cruz, your willingness to speak publicly on Somaliland and to give attention to its aspirations is deeply significant to people such as myself. To us, such support reaches beyond the ordinary language of politics and diplomacy. It represents acknowledgment of a people who endured extraordinary hardship, rose again through their own determination, and continue peacefully to seek international recognition of the country they rebuilt.
I therefore extend to you my sincere and heartfelt gratitude for the attention you have given to Somaliland and for the support you have publicly expressed.
I regard you as a valued friend of the people of Somaliland, and I sincerely hope that the day will come when we shall have the honour of welcoming you to Hargeisa.
Should that day come, I would personally wish to see your friendship remembered for generations to come, including through a monument in the heart of our capital, commemorating those who chose to stand with Somaliland at an important moment in its history.
Our people understand the value of friendship because we understand the cost of standing alone.
A nation that remembers its sacrifices will also remember those who stood beside it.
With profound respect and enduring appreciation,
Sultan Abdikariim
Citizen of the Republic of Somaliland
Glad to welcome Minister Abdalle Mohamed Arab to Taiwan. Taiwan and Somaliland are deepening practical cooperation—from ICT talent development and maritime security to disaster resilience—turning friendship into shared resilience and mutual benefit.
