Rest in Peace, Marcia Lucas
The Myrtle Beach International Film Festival mourns the passing of Marcia Lucas, the Oscar-winning film editor whose visionary work helped shape cinematic history.
Marcia’s masterful editing on Star Wars (1977) — for which she won an Academy Award — brought emotional depth, pacing, and heart to one of the greatest films ever made. Her contributions to American Graffiti, Taxi Driver, Return of the Jedi, and beyond made her a trailblazer for women in film and a true legend in the industry.
From the cutting room to the stars, her talent and passion will forever be felt. May the Force be with her always. ❤️
Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched through the magic of cinema.

Last year (2025), getting a response from filmmakers could take days or even weeks.
This year (2026)? Every single response has been immediate. Jerry discusses what this dramatic improvement means for collaboration, communication, and the overall energy in the independent film world right now.
What a time to be part of this industry. What differences have you noticed in 2026 so far? Drop your thoughts below #FilmThoughtOfTheDay #Filmmaking #2026Cinema #IndependentFilm #myrtlebeach #SouthCarolina

Film Thought of the Day: Shooting for the big screen versus television and social media isn’t just about budget, it’s about how the story looks and feels.
On the big screen, filmmakers traditionally embrace 24fps for that dreamy, cinematic motion. The slightly lower frame rate gives movement a smoother more life like feel. Wider shooting formats like 2.39:1 scope or even go Cinescope to fill the massive canvas and pull the audience into the world.
For TV/streaming, the rhythm often shifts. Many shows shoot at 23.98fps or 29.97fps, and the 16:9 or 1.78:1 frame feels more tightly boxed and immediate, perfect for close-ups, fast cuts and dialogue-driven storytelling that lives on smaller screens and phones.
The format and frame rate you choose isn’t only technical, it’s also emotional. It tells the audience what kind of experience they’re in for before the story even begins.
If you are shooting for the big screen consider 23.98 or 24p. If you are shooting for the smaller screen with a lot of action consider 29.97 or 30p or even 59.97 or 60p for that crisper hyper realism.
Film in the frame and format that is designed for the proper output with the look and feel you are going for.

Whether you're the one holding the camera, stealing scenes on screen, or cheering from the front row — today we celebrate you.
As South Carolina’s longest-running film festival, we know a thing or two about stars… and the brightest ones are often called “Mom.”
This year, mothers are stealing the show in every sense — on screen and off. Thank you for the love, the laughter, the late-night story times, and the endless support that makes every great story possible.
Wishing you a beautiful Mother’s Day filled with joy, hugs, and maybe a little popcorn.
With gratitude and admiration,

3am studio break…
Stepped outside for some fresh air and was completely stopped in my tracks by this beautiful moon looking down on us. So bright, so still, like a quiet reminder that the world keeps turning and the creative spark never really goes out.
Wishing everyone a little more peace in the chaos, and a whole lot more creativity in the quiet hours. Keep making things. Keep dreaming. The night (and the moon) has your back.

Morning fuel, beach vibes, and award-winning brews — that’s the New South way!
One of the oldest and most decorated breweries in South Carolina, New South Brewing in Myrtle Beach has been crafting legendary beers since 1998. Everyone’s had their award-winning brews… but have you tried their coffee?
Whether it’s that rich, locally roasted blend kicking off your day or a smooth pour after sunset, New South keeps the locals going morning and night.
And speaking of passion projects — the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival, the longest-running film festival in South Carolina, runs on New South coffee!
These great folks have been longtime supporters of the arts and the MBIFF, proving they’re not just about great beer and coffee… they’re about community and creativity too.
No trip to Myrtle Beach is complete without a visit to New South Brewing. Swing by, grab a bag of beans (or a growler), and drink what the locals drink!
