The BDS (Baseball Derangement Syndrome) is getting worse and worse!:

-Unqualified and uneducated “instructors” giving horrible advice and information that actually makes players worse, but yet parents keep paying and wasting their hard earned money

-Parental gossip and ignorance about “showcases” and “exposure” and what it really takes to play at the next level, being fooled and scammed out of their money

-The “club” and “travel ball” world is so diluted with no focus on improvement, development, instruction, or team, just selfishness trying to go viral on social media, and playing boring games going through the motions

-A lack of appreciation for a coach’s effort and sacrifice,but instead they get slandered, picked apart over stupid issues and constantly having to deal with unimportant “parental” problems

-A lack of respect for your opponents and umpires, showing up the other team, stupid and disrespectful dugout chirp, punky trash talk, demeaning umpires and treating them like garbage

-A lack of commitment to any team, when things don’t go your way, you just transfer or quit and hope the grass is greener somewhere else, but guess what?! It’s usually the same grass just in a different spot. You don’t ever compete for it, you just complain, make excuses and expect it to be different somewhere else, and yes, I’m talking to both player AND parents

WHAT ARE WE DOING?!

I can literally go on and on, but when does the BDS nonsense stop?!

“He’s too weak.”

“He’s too slow.”

“His reactions are too slow.”

“He’s not ready.”

Years later, that coach sees that same player who he turned away and looked down on and asks “What happened?” “That’s not the same kid I saw before!”

Puberty, reps, patience and opportunity…Coach, that’s what happened!! You were just so caught up and obsessed with who’s ready now that you couldn’t see what was standing before you looking for someone to help them. Remember, Coach equals teacher.

Many reasons my eyes don’t get big and we should never get ahead of ourselves:

Seen “superstar” 11 & 12 year olds end up being average HS players and never play beyond that. Seen “too small” and “too weak” 11 & 12 year olds end up being HS standouts who get opportunity at the next level.

While the early bloomers are “exciting” man, I love a late bloomer story. Witnessed so many over the years. The determination and grit these kids have to have and development is invaluable.
