Phoenix is pleased to share an update from Pioneer Minerals (ASX: $PMM) CEO Michael Beven on the strengthening tungsten market and the strategic potential of the Springfield Deposit in Idaho.
Tungsten prices have risen from ~US$500/MTU in 2025 to ~US$2,500/MTU today, driven by tightening supply. The transcript notes that China controls ~83% of global tungsten supply, and its May 2025 export restrictions have added further pressure to Western markets.
Against this backdrop, Pioneer’s Springfield Deposit is gaining importance, with mineralisation linked to a 2.9km-long magnetic anomaly. With restart potential and further exploration ahead, Pioneer is building exposure to a highly strategic U.S. critical minerals opportunity

Phoenix is pleased to share an update from Pioneer Minerals (ASX: $PMM) CEO Michael Bevan on a major geophysical breakthrough at the Springfield Prospect, part of the North Pine Project in Idaho.
A high-resolution airborne magnetic survey has defined a large, coherent magnetic anomaly ~2.9 km long and up to 600 m wide, directly coincident with the historic Springfield tungsten mine. Independent interpretation by Mitre Geophysics confirms the anomaly is linked to either a previously unrecognised metasedimentary roof pendant or a pyrrhotite-rich sulphide zone, both highly prospective for tungsten mineralisation.
Petrographic studies confirm a strong scheelite–pyrrhotite genetic association, establishing pyrrhotite as a key magnetic proxy for tungsten. With most of the system historically untested, Pioneer is now planning extensive ground follow-up to refine drill targets.
Stay tuned for further updates.

🌎 is finding out 2️⃣ key things tungsten (among many others):
1) How ubiquitous this metal is across a wide range of industries and use cases.
&
2) How generally irreplaceable it is given its extremely unique physical properties.
@GuardianMetRes figured this out 4️⃣ years ago.
The results of the magnetic survey at the North Pine and Springfield project are a potential game changer. This magnetic anomaly is far bigger than I ever expected. The potential size and scale of discovery at Springfield has increased exponentially!

Pioneer Minerals (ASX: $PMM) – Major Geophysical Breakthrough Confirms District-Scale Tungsten Potential at Springfield, Idaho
Pioneer has delivered a major technical breakthrough at the Springfield Prospect, with new independent geophysical interpretation confirming a large, coherent magnetic system directly associated with high-grade tungsten mineralisation.
Key highlights:
• District-scale magnetic anomaly defined, extending ~2.9km along strike and up to 600m wide, far exceeding the footprint of historic mining
• Independent interpretation links the anomaly to either a metasedimentary roof pendant or a pyrrhotite-rich skarn system, both highly prospective for tungsten
• Genetic link confirmed between scheelite and pyrrhotite, establishing pyrrhotite as a reliable magnetic proxy for tungsten mineralisation
• Rock-chip sampling confirms a high-grade reduced tungsten skarn, with results up to 2.98% WO₃, spatially coincident with the magnetic feature
• Historical mining tested only a small portion of the system, leaving the majority of the magnetic anomaly untested by modern exploration
• Geological setting and magnetic response show strong similarities to the Dolphin tungsten deposit (King Island, Tasmania)
• Results materially upgrade Springfield to a priority, district-scale tungsten target within Pioneer’s US critical minerals portfolio
With geophysics, petrography and geochemistry now fully aligned, Springfield is emerging as a large-scale tungsten system with significant upside.
