Finally getting back into this after a month off - including a fantastic week in Miami (football aside).
Fancied a change so will be posting under my name moving forwards.
Aiming to have a report on Sturm Graz up later this week, and the other European opponents if I can source some footage!
Also working on a club-by-club breakdown of where each of the 12 Premiership teams still need to strengthen in the transfer market, along with potential targets who could fit.
Plenty to come ✍️
In the 8 years since Tony Bloom and JTA got involved with USG, 7 managers have been appointed - none lasting longer than two seasons.
The first 2 under Bloom's regime had no Belgian football ties, but the following 5 did.
Could Hearts be looking closer to home than expected?
Underwhelming performance to say the least but the 3 points were all that mattered.
I thought Ferguson was excellent and really impressed by Hanley too.
Need to step it up a level against Morocco and Brazil but weirdly confident we will.
Job done 🏴
Quick summary of the below -
Haiti:
• Direct side built on counter attacks & long-balls.
• Attack the wings with explosive wide men.
• Target-man focal point.
• Suspect at defending the box from crosses.
• Vulnerable in behind.
• Inconsistent final third decision making.
🇭🇹 v 🏴 | World Cup 2026 | Opposition Analysis: Haiti
Scotland are back in World Cup action after a 28-year-long wait, and it's Haiti up first.
The easiest of the three group games on paper, but certainly far from straightforward.
Let's find out why 👇🧵
Scotland's World Cup breakout star? 🏴🌎
At every World Cup there are young players who announce themselves on the world stage.
Here is why I believe 20-year-old Ben Gannon-Doak from Dalry, North Ayrhsire, could be one of them this summer.
(A thread 🧵):
Summary
This Haiti side carry a threat from three key behaviours: attacking the wide areas, playing direct to a target man, and breaking forward at pace after turnovers. Their wingers push high creating an almost 4-2-4 formation, linking up with roaming, often underlapping, full-backs and central midfielders. They won’t play out very often, preferring to go long to the strikers where they win knockdowns and immediately attack from second balls. When winning back possession, they happily commit bodies forward with real speed. Not a side expected to sustain possession.
From a Scotland perspective there are apparent vulnerabilities to exploit. Most notably, if they do stick with their mid-high defensive line, the runners of Adams or Gannon-Doak in behind will cause them issues. Alternatively, if they do drop deeper, they won’t be fully accustomed to playing that way so their structure will likely unravel with sustained pressure.
Haiti also struggle to defend the box consistently, particularly when dealing with balls from wide areas. This makes the role of Robertson and Hickey crucial with the Haiti wingers often tucking in leaving spaces for the Scotland full backs to exploit and get balls delivered into the box.
Overall Haiti carry a very real threat in their pace – both individually and how they move the ball forward. However, I do expect Scotland to dominate the ball so if they can stay wary of Haiti’s counter attacking threat, the gaps to exploit will open which is where the clinical nature of Shankland can be key.

Key Players
Frantzdy Pierrot – albeit a chance he may not start with Isidor and Nazon fierce competition, the 6’ 4” target man looks so important to how Haiti play in terms of being the focal point and out ball for defenders to aim for. His physicality and hold-up play is just one aspect of his game, but he’s excellent in front of goal too – netting 34 times in 52 games for Haiti. For a team so keen on playing the wings, Pierrot’s aerial ability is certainly useful and someone Scotland need to get a hold of early.
Louicius Deedson – a tricky, explosive right winger who can give any left back a problem. What makes him so dangerous is how unpredictable he can be with and without the ball, displaying variation in his movements of cutting in or hitting the byline. In his 32 caps, he’s got 19 goal contributions (10G, 9A), certainly one to watch.
Couldn't have asked for much more there, as comfortable as it gets!
Adams and Shankland excellent, Gannon-Doak seriously dangerous, and don't remember Gunn being troubled.
Bring on Haiti 🏴🏴
My preferred starting XI for tonight:
• Close to what we’d expect to see vs Haiti - for first half only.
• Would be cautious risking Hickey and Tierney.
• More minutes for Gordon as I do think he’s our best GK.
• Keen on seeing Ross Stewart for the second 45.
Thoughts?
@BillNorAngus Personally not so keen on 442 - don’t think it gets the best out of McTominay if he’s deeper.
Wouldn’t be too fussed if we set up that way at some point tonight, but against Haiti i’d be concerned about the gaps we leave for them to counter
