Kathy took me under her wing at Central and then remained a champion of me & my career after graduation. She was the first to send a note of congratulations when I was named MCAN’s Executive Director. She was always there for a hug and great advice. Sending love to her family.💔
Very sad news today: Kathy Wilbur, a fixture in the Capitol community spanning the past 5 decades, died this morning. She was 70 and had sudden recurrence of cancer. A friend and mentor to many during her work in the legislative and executive branches and 20+ years in higher ed.
Students should be focused on excelling in the classroom, not worrying about affording their next meal.

Loved comments from @NitzanPelman in a session at #JFFHorizons that the skills messaging at the conference was not the right tone and lacked context (my words - not hers). I appreciated someone else felt the discomfort I was feeling and voiced it from the stage.
Ask them what their children are doing. They aren’t getting “skills badges” on a “learning record.” They are going to fancy colleges just like their parents. If it’s good enough for you…and your kids…why not everybody else?
Disappointed in JFF.
Really disappointing exchange at #JFFHorizons
Guy from Google: We are still hiring people with degrees.
Session Moderator: I don’t think you’re allowed to say that at this conference. Do you want to rephrase that?
I’m shocked at the anti-college rhetoric here.
Data shows college is a good decision. Grads will make more $, be more hirable & build assets & wealth. That doesn’t make other pathways bad, but we can’t just will them to be better. And these remarks mostly come from white people w/ fancy college degrees making six figures.
