What an inspiring ICAN (I Can Achieve a Nursing Degree)Event!
Albany County and MVP Health Care under the Innovation Partnership have been proud investors in this successful program Russell Sage College. High School students participated in curriculum designed for aspiring nurses and health care professionals. They were guided by mentors and educators. We heard from a student who is headed to college this fall to become a nurse and another who is in high school and will continue in the ICAN program next semester. Congratulations!

This morning, members of my staff attended a press conference to announce the launch of NNME Northeast, one of the first Regional Nodes of the National Network for Microelectronics Education (NNME). Spanning from Maine to Virginia, the Northeast Regional Node will connect education, industry and workforce partners to expand training opportunities and develop skilled workers to help support the rapidly growing semiconductor and microelectronic industry. Through hands-on training opportunities and pathways into high demand careers, this initiative will help strengthen our workforce and drive innovation.

June's Honor-a-Vet Ceremony was in honor of United States Navy Veteran Thomas A. Regan. He served in the Vietnam War as a Senior Gunner’s Mate on board the USS Suribachi, an ammunition supply ship. Thomas was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, which recognizes honorable active-duty service during specific designated periods of national emergency or armed conflict. While he passed in 2025, his legacy lives on.

What a day of adventure! Lishakill Middle School took over Lawson Lake County Park for an amazing Field Day last week! From hiking through the woods and exploring the lake the students made memories and enjoyed the great outdoors on a beautiful day!
Along the way, students discovered a variety of wildlife and enjoyed spotting different creatures in their natural habitats. From birds chirping in the sky to frogs and snakes poking out of the water, every sighting made the day even more exciting and helped bring the outdoor learning experience to life.
Thank you to our Parks & Recreation staff, Lishakill teachers, and chaperones, but most importantly to the students for bringing the energy and excitement that made for a wonderful day of adventure!
Carol Durant, award-winning author, poet, and playwright, debuted her latest stage play entitled Drive to Live in Albany on the Saint Rose campus at the Interfaith Sanctuary.
Yesterday, the Albany County Department for Children, Youth and Families hosted "Stepping Stones to Support" a Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Family Resource Fair at the Saint Rose Campus. When we connect families with the right resources and support systems, we help create stronger, healthier communities for everyone.
To further clarify, when I was referring to "local municipal planning" I was referring to the City of Albany's Planning and zoning boards. Albany County has no jurisdiction in this matter.
We have been receiving questions about the proposed “Kenwood Tech Center” in southern Albany. While it has been a priority of my administration to support the redevelopment of the Kenwood Commons Property by encouraging outside investment, Albany County does not have control over the site. The property is currently in bankruptcy, and any future development is subject to review by the local municipal planning and zoning board. Proposals like this often come with promises of new jobs and economic activity. Before any decisions are made, there needs to be a thorough cost-benefit analysis that honestly weighs the economic opportunities against the potential environmental impacts, including energy use, water demand, and long-term sustainability.
I’m proud to partner with the Albany County Legislature to support our Veterans in two ways: by awarding $150,000 in grants to 12 local VFW and American Legion posts that help Veterans transition and stay connected, and by unveiling 14 new recognition banners that honor the service and sacrifice of local Veterans across Albany County. Both efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to stand with those who served, not just in words, but through real support and lasting recognition.
