Augustus Crane, Jr., who grew up at Acorn Hall, was a member of the floor committee for the inauguration of Grover Cleveland. Before FDR, inaugurations were held in March and MCHS has souvenirs in its archives from the ceremony and ball he attended on March 4, 1885.
With the ratification of the 18th Amendment on January 16, 1919 and passage of the Volstead Act later that year, Prohibition took full effect, but that doesn't mean alcohol stopped flowing in Morris County. https://t.co/6mG8sBCuPw
Edward Kranich (1826-1891), noted NJ landscape artist, painted many scenes around Morristown between 1850 and 1860. His painting of The Sycamores (home of the Bonsall family), c.1860 will be highlighted in our upcoming exhibit A Storied Past: History That Made Morris County.
