MCPD 6D officers dispatched to Shady Grove Hospital in the 9900 block of Medical Center Drive at approximately 2:27 p.m. for the report of an adult male threatening staff with a knife in the triage area.
When officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he ran from the emergency department. Officers deployed Tasers, but did not make contact with the suspect.
Officers apprehended the suspect and he was placed into custody.
No staff, patients, or officers were injured during the incident.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have charged 29-year-old Vanessa Tjongarero-Henderson of Clarksburg and 36-year-old Samantha Raebel of Phoenix, AZ with first-degree murder in connection with the killing of Hilde Henderson of Silver Spring. Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspects.

In 2025, detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Auto Crime Enforcement Unit shut down a large-scale auto theft operation in Gaithersburg.
Jessy Alexander Cruz and Claudia Stacie Herrera were arrested following a multi-jurisdictional investigation that uncovered more than 17 stolen vehicles and auto parts, valued at over $247,000.
The case began on April 7, 2025, when detectives spotted a stolen vehicle in the area of Frederick Road and Shady Grove Road. What started as a single recovery quickly expanded into a two-month investigation spanning multiple jurisdictions.
Search warrants executed at a residence and storage unit in Gaithersburg led to the recovery of:
10 stolen vehicles 3 stolen motorcycles and additional stolen auto parts.
This case highlights the persistence of our detectives and the importance of proactive policing in disrupting organized auto theft operations.
Reminder: Auto theft is often part of larger, coordinated criminal activity. If you see suspicious behavior, report it.

Congratulations to Detectives Tara Augustin and Alyson Dupouy of the Montgomery County Department of Police- Major Crimes Division: Missing Persons/Cold Case Section on being named Law & Crime’s America’s Greatest Detectives!
Their dedication to solving cold cases and never giving up on victims and their families has helped bring answers and closure in cases that remained unsolved for decades.
After being selected as finalists and featured on Prime Crime, they headed to CrimeCon in Las Vegas and brought home the top honor.
While we're excited to see them recognized on a national stage, this award simply highlights what we already know, Tara and Alyson are incredible detectives who work tirelessly every day to seek justice for victims.
Congratulations, Tara and Alyson! We are so proud of you both.

The incident took place at the Gaithersburg Police Station. Surveillance video captured the pictured individual kicking and punching the front entrance, causing significant damage to the handicap button and ID card scanner.

After 37 years with the Montgomery County Department of Police, Assistant Chief Willie Parker-Loan is retiring.
Hired in 1989, he began his career in the 3rd District and went on to serve in several specialized units and divisions, including Internal Affairs, Family Crimes, and Special Victims. He also served as a Duty Commander, 6th District Commander, Executive Officer, and as Chief of the Patrol Services Bureau the Investigative Services Bureau.
A mentor to many, always willing to give advice, and known for his sense of humor and thoughtful leadership, Chief Parker-Loan has made a lasting impact on this department.
We wish you a happy, peaceful, and fulfilling retirement.
Thank you for your service. You will be missed.
