It’s the final day of @LegsMatter and I thought I would end with a few facts about lower limb and foot ulcers.
We can save the NHS over £9 for every £1 spent on improving care. It’s all about better pathways, ‘fuss-free’ referrals and treating the whole patient not just the leg!
Fancy some choice facts?
1.Leg Ulcers: Approximately 15% of individuals with venous leg ulcers may experience a recurrence within a year, highlighting the importance of long-term care and prevention. #LegUlcers #VascularHealth
2.Foot Ulcers: Diabetic foot ulcers affect 15-25% of people with diabetes at some point in their lives, often leading to severe complications if not properly managed. #FootUlcers #DiabetesCare
3.Lymphoedema: Lymphoedema, characterized by swelling in the arms or legs due to lymphatic system blockage, can be either primary (inherited) or secondary (caused by injury or infection). #Lymphoedema #SwellingManagement
4.Leg Ulcers: Chronic venous insufficiency is a major cause of leg ulcers, often resulting from damaged valves in the veins that hinder blood return to the heart. #VenousInsufficiency #LegUlcers
5.Foot Ulcers: Foot ulcers in diabetics are a leading cause of lower limb amputations, but proper foot care and early intervention can significantly reduce this risk. #FootCare #DiabetesManagement #FootUlcers
It’s @LegsMatter weeeeeeeeek!!!!
We’re raising awareness of lower limb foot and leg ulcers and the impact on people’s lives.
Across Greater Manchester alone ~3500 people have ~7000 ulcers that are dressed on average twice a week.
Half of community nurse and podiatry workload is wound care!
