In 2021, the Central Coast Water Board placed limits on agricultural fertilizer nitrate runoff, but the State Water Board removed these protective limits. Monterey Waterkeeper is now challenging this illegal rollback to protect communities at risk. https://t.co/o0IuFmpw06

Last Saturday we took 6th graders from St. Vicente Elementary School in Soledad to Lake San Antonio. Students enjoyed wading and catching fish and tadpoles in the pristine San Antonio River. Our outdoor ed goal was to show youth what clean water looks and feels like.

The Salinas River is the lifeblood of Monterey County, carrying water for people & animals from the southern end through the Salinas Valley, before it empties into Monterey Bay. On our trip on Thursday, our group saw at least 5 bald eagles, an osprey, fish, and beaver trails!

Last Saturday water warriors hauled 3 hoses, 2 tires, an orange helmet, and an inflatable chair (among other trash like bottles and wrappers) while kayaking Elkhorn Slough. Thank you for protecting Monterey Bay’s primary nursery!
