I’ve noticed that the early stages of a Pluto ingress often introduce a new collective fear connected to the sign Pluto has entered.

Pluto in Scorpio brought the Satanic Panic, AIDS hysteria and an intensified cultural fixation on sex, death, contamination and hidden evil.

Pluto in Sagittarius coincided with 9/11, the War on Terror and a profound fear of foreign countries, religious extremism, borders and ideological enemies.

Pluto in Capricorn amplified fears surrounding corporations, banks, governments, billionaires and increasingly concentrated institutional power. “Eat the rich” became part of the cultural vocabulary.

And now, with Pluto in Aquarius, AI has become one of the great objects of collective anxiety: machines replacing people, technology escaping our control, surveillance, algorithms and the possibility that human beings become obsolete.

What interests me is what happens next.

Pluto stays in a sign for a very long time. The fear doesn’t necessarily disappear. In some cases, the thing we feared becomes even more powerful.

But we adapt.

What once seemed unimaginable becomes part of ordinary life. We develop laws, language, customs, defenses and psychological tolerance around it. Eventually, an entire generation grows up knowing no world without it.

Perhaps that is part of Pluto’s function.

It introduces us to something we cannot control, frightens us with the scale of it, and then forces us to learn how to live beside it without allowing fear to dictate our lives.
