Our state still has every advantage: a highly educated workforce, world-class universities, a strong innovation economy, and an unmatched location. But Maryland is losing ground because high taxes, rising energy costs, excessive regulation, and an increasingly expensive business climate are overwhelming those strengths.
This decline is not inevitable. Maryland has competed near the top before, and it can again. But Annapolis must start judging every major policy by one simple test: Will it make Maryland more affordable and competitive, or more expensive for families and businesses?
Maryland deserves better than 36th place.
