The MDC manages over 31,000 acres of land as part of the watershed protection of our reservoirs. We share that vast area with all kinds of wildlife such as bears, snakes, deer and more. When using MDC recreation areas, be mindful of potential encounters with animals in their habitat and to keep your distance from them. For more information, visit CT DEEP's wildlife information page.

The MDC continues to invest in the maintenance and upgrades of the water system. From 2020-2025, the MDC has installed or replaced approximately 75 miles of water main, an average of over 10 miles a year.
Over that same time, the MDC has invested approximately $274 million in water infrastructure improvement projects. This includes improvements to water mains, distribution system, treatment plants, reservoirs, and more. #DrinkingWaterWeek
Drinking water goes through several steps before it reaches your tap. Treatment (Such as MDC's Reservoir 6 Water Treatment Facility) storage, and distribution all play a role in keeping water safe and reliable across our community and keeping those pieces working takes ongoing care and attention. #DrinkingWaterWeek
Happy #DrinkingWaterWeek! As of April 30, the MDC's drinking water reservoirs are at 99.9% of capacity. The Nepaug Reservoir (pictured here) holds 9.5 billion gallons of water.
MDC's Saville Dam was built from 1933 to 1940. The video short includes rare, historical footage of the dam's construction! The Barkhamsted Reservoir now holds over 30 billion gallons of water supply.
Whether it's construction in your neighborhood or private property work, our Project Outreach team is there to help you through the process. With significant improvements being made to the water and sewer infrastructure across the MDC service area, our goal is to keep you informed. Stay connected!
