@shaurizard granted theres both pros and cons to that 'longtime senior/track record only' requirement, but i do believe it's certainly a good chunk of the reason

CSGO/CS2 devs are so little in comparison to Deadlock as well

@shaurizard they can but how many actual senior industry folks with a track record want to even apply is the question

it is so little that Valve nowadays mostly resorts to headhunting rather than applications (see: Risk of Rain devs -> Deadlock)

unbelievable the amount of students going into STEM post-hs and being surprised at having to do good chunks of math

@reze_1239 @LoveChickenParm @kyle_wired the US system for some reason really love their concept of 'Gen Eds' during university/college instead of just integrating that IN the highschool curriculum, and yet even those don't cover some humanities fundamentals that people learn elsewhere (eg. Germany's Abitur)

@xenopulsion @reze_1239 for all the flack eastern schools catch for their suicide/depression rates and what not, students from there at least come out genuinely knowing what their maximum is instead of being pampered by both teachers, parents and others as 'oh don't worry, you don't need to try'

they fly by through the basics necessary for "advanced" math without understanding the actual concepts behind it -> due to horrificly designed testing

which leads to them coming into newer concepts 1/x

@xenopulsion @reze_1239 there are genuinely students that maybe cannot grasp these concepts on a fundamental and mental level

they exist
but western school doesnt do a good job of actually finding out if that is the case versus a fundamentally flawed teaching method/lack of self-studying/discipline 3/3

when in fact they're just... not grasping basics that should make calculus 1, 2 and linear algebra a flick of the wrist

though this isn't even a US only problem, I encounter this in Germany as well 2/x
