As we see an influx of people in the Traverse City area during the summer months, keeping our roadways safe remains a top priority. The Michigan State Police Traverse City Post will be conducting an impaired‑driving enforcement initiative on June 12. Additional troopers will be assigned to this initiative and will strictly focus on reducing dangerous driving behaviors and promoting safer roadways for everyone.

June 2, 2026 – The goal is zero fatalities and serious injuries on Michigan roads through the implementation of the Safe System Approach.
Since last week, 19 people died on Michigan roadways making a total of 308 this year. In addition, 125 more were seriously injured for a statewide total of 1,696 to date.
Compared to last year at this time, there are 51 fewer fatalities and 95 fewer serious injuries.
Our weather remains quiet into Thursday, with warming temps, especially in northern lower Michigan. Elevated fire danger continues into Thursday. More humid air finally invades to end the week. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will result, from Thursday night into Saturday.
The Michigan State Police has received reports of individuals trespassing on the M-38 construction site in Presque Isle County.
