I've written a letter signed by 60 of my parliamentary colleagues to the Foreign Secretary urging the Government to take decisive & immediate action to secure the release of my constituent, Jagtar Singh Johal, from arbitrary detention in India. My thanks to all for their support.
The World Sikh Organization of Canada is deeply disturbed by reporting in The Globe and Mail alleging that Indian consular officials linked to Research and Analysis Wing assisted in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
This is a grave attack on Canadian sovereignty and the safety of Sikh Canadians. @CanadianPM Carney must ensure the criminal case extends beyond the gunmen to those who directed it — including officials in the Government of India.

"They must take us for idiots."
Balpreet Singh, legal counsel for WSO speaks to @CTVNews after yesterday's news when a senior official claimed India is no longer linked to violent crimes and transnational repression in Canada.
This conversation didn’t start yesterday. It started with the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023 and years of intimidation before that.
No justice. No accountability. Just political backtracking.
Even the Privy Council Office acknowledged, ahead of Mark Carney’s first engagement with Narendra Modi, that public accountability was necessary.
So where is it?
If Canada cannot defend its own rule of law, its own sovereignty, where does it end?

I firmly denounce remarks by a government official downplaying India’s transnational repression.
They contradict assessments from the NSIA, the RCMP, and CSIS. This matter must be addressed, and the individual’s conduct and suitability for their role must be reviewed.
Sukh Dhaliwal stands alone as the only Member of Parliament with the courage to speak up when it mattered.
The silence from the rest is not neutrality, it is complicity. By refusing to speak, these MPs have shown they do not represent the voices, concerns, or values of the Canadian people they claim to serve.
Let this be clear,
those who choose silence will also lose the support of the Sikh community. Votes are earned through principle and action, not cowardice and convenience.
Shame on every MP who stayed silent when leadership was required.
my latest for the star:
“The Carney government is making a choice to prioritize trade over the public safety of Canadians. That itself is bad enough. But that the government is pretending the choice doesn’t exist in order to placate India is even worse.”

Mark Carney's approach to India disregards warnings from law enforcement and the lived realities of Sikh Canadians who continue to face threats and intimidation.

A youngster questioned authorities about inaction of police against drug smugglers who are close to MLAs of ruling party.
The youth used to grill Akali and Congress leaders a couple of years back… we are happy that tradition of questioning authorities and politicians is back.

Earlier today Douglas McAllister for West Dunbartonshire raised Jagtar’s 3000th day in arbitrary detention, it is rather disappointing that the Foreign Secretary didn't have the courtesy to answer the question, instead delegated it to a Minister.
