Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill into law Monday barring the state’s colleges and universities from spending money on diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and limiting how race can be discussed in many courses.
“If you look at the way this has actually been implemented across the country, DEI is better viewed as standing for discrimination, exclusion and indoctrination,” DeSantis said at a news conference at New College of Florida in Sarasota. “And that has no place in our public institutions. This bill says the whole experiment with DEI is coming to an end in the state of Florida.” https://t.co/t88cD3MRYb

She would've celebrated her 80th next week. She'll be remembered for the colossal birthday celebrations she threw for members of the family– which were truly a community event. Given the state of the world, we'll find a way to celebrate her life & the hope she inspired in others.
She was the bridge in our family. It didn't matter the conflict of the hour, or who wasn't talking to who. She had space in her heart for all of us, all of the time.
Her resilient love could face any storm.
She always believed in the inherent good within people. She was trusting, loyal, and forgiving–– even when it wasn't easy. Even when others only saw bad.
My last living grandparent passed away last night.
My grandmother was a special being. She was one of those people, when she opened her mouth to speak–– you could hear magic in her voice.
If you wonder where I get my hopeful view of the world–– look no further than Grandma T.
Please share — I wrote an op-ed in @BikePortland about the obstacles I’ve faced, the odds I’ve defied & why I’m running for Metro Council.
