Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga Strengthens Engagement with East African Business Council and Parliament on Regional Integration

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for @meaca_ug Rt. Hon. @RebeccaKadagaUG , hosted a delegation from the East African Business Council @EABCjumuiya Uganda Chapter led by Chapter Chairperson Mr. @skaheru , accompanied by the Council’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ahmed Farah and National Liaison Officer Mr. Emmanuel Busuulwa.

The delegation’s courtesy call focused on strategies to deepen collaboration between the private sector and EAC Partner State governments, with emphasis on removing Non‑Tariff Barriers (NTBs), promoting cross‑border trade, and unlocking investment opportunities for Ugandan businesses.

During the meeting, the parties agreed on Uganda’s active participation in the inaugural East African Business Forum, scheduled for September in Nairobi, Kenya. Rt. Hon. Kadaga confirmed that Uganda will mobilize a strong delegation of policymakers and private sector leaders, while EABC pledged to coordinate investment dialogues and policy papers to be tabled at the Forum. The Forum will rotate annually among EAC capitals, creating a permanent platform for government–private sector dialogue on regional integration.

As Chairperson of the @jumuiya Council of Ministers, Rt. Hon. Kadaga underscored Uganda’s commitment to address NTBs, harmonize standards, and strengthen trade facilitation measures, noting that these steps are critical for farmers, SMEs, and exporters who depend on seamless access to regional markets.

The delegation concluded its official tour of duty in Uganda, where they were warmly received by Rt. Hon. @RebeccaKadagaUG , First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for @meaca_ug

During their visit, Rt. Hon. Kadaga introduced the delegation to Uganda’s business community and reaffirmed the country’s position as a land of vast opportunities. She emphasized Uganda’s potential in oil and gas, technology, and mining, urging investors to seize the moment.

“Uganda is not merely a destination; it is a frontier of opportunity. From oil and gas to technology and mining, our land holds immense promise. I urge our partners to seize these prospects, for in investing here, they invest in the future of East Africa,” said Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.

The delegation expressed deep appreciation for Uganda’s hospitality and acknowledged the nation’s economic potential. They pledged to channel investments into the oil and gas sector as well as mining, underscoring Uganda’s attractiveness as an investment hub.

This engagement comes at a pivotal time as Uganda prepares to host the inaugural East African Community Trade and Digital Summit in November. The summit is expected to showcase the region’s economic dynamism and digital transformation agenda, further positioning Uganda as a gateway to East Africa’s future.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for @meaca_ug , Rt. Hon. @RebeccaKadagaUG , today renewed her passport through the @DCICUg Mobile Enrollment Service.

A team from the @mia_uga, led by the Ministry Spokesperson, Mr. Simon Peter Mundeyi, and accompanied by Mrs. Namunswa Lydia, Immigration Officer, conducted the enrollment at her office using a Mobile Enrollment Kit.

The Mobile Enrollment Service enables DCIC to provide passport enrollment and renewal services to eligible VIPs and other special categories of clients at their workplaces or designated locations, enhancing convenience while maintaining the same standards of security, integrity, and efficiency as those offered at passport enrollment centres.

The initiative underscores the Ministry of Internal Affairs' commitment to delivering efficient, citizen-centred services and expanding access to government services across Uganda.

Kadaga Champions Regional Integration During EAC Secretariat Visit

Rt. Hon. @RebeccaKadagaUG, Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and @meaca_ug and Chairperson of the Council of EAC Ministers, successfully concluded a five-day working visit to the @jumuiya Secretariat in Arusha, Tanzania. During her mission, Rt. Hon. Kadaga delivered the EAC Budget Speech for the Financial Year 2026/27 before the @EA_Bunge and actively participated in plenary sessions. She also presided as Chief Guest at the opening of the 2nd Women Integration Dialogue, underscoring the EAC’s commitment to advancing women’s participation in regional integration and development. At the Secretariat, the Minister engaged virtually with East Africans in the diaspora, discussing their role in strengthening regional integration, unlocking investment opportunities, and fostering partnerships that drive socio-economic transformation across the Community.

The visit concluded with a farewell dinner hosted by EALA Secretariat staff, who praised Rt. Hon. Kadaga’s exemplary leadership, resilience, and hands-on dedication to the EAC integration agenda.

"When women lead, communities thrive. When women are empowered digitally, nations transform."

Rt Hon @RebeccaKadagaUG (MP) delivered a compelling call to action during the 2nd East African Community Women's Intergenerational Dialogue, reiterating that the recommendations emerging from the Dialogue must not remain on paper but should translate into concrete regional action. She assured participants that the outcomes would be presented before the @jumuiya Sectoral Council and, where necessary, elevated to the Council of Ministers and the Summit of Heads of State to ensure meaningful implementation.

She emphasized that women are increasingly becoming the driving force behind innovation and economic transformation, but noted that they continue to face significant barriers in accessing technology, digital infrastructure, mentorship, financing and global networks. She stressed that bridging these gaps is essential to unlocking the full potential of women entrepreneurs, professionals and innovators across East Africa.

Rt. Hon. Kadaga further reiterated that technology is no longer optional but a necessity for inclusive development. She called for targeted investment in digital literacy, innovation hubs and mentorship programmes that equip women and girls with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, she urged governments, development partners, academic institutions and the private sector to create stronger regional platforms that connect women with opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, innovation and leadership. She also encouraged East Africa to learn from successful initiatives across the continent that have empowered women in science, technology and digital innovation.

She underscored the need to leverage emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to create more opportunities for women while ensuring that digital transformation remains inclusive and responsive to gender needs.

Concluding her remarks, Rt. Hon. Kadaga called for sustained investment in women and girls, reaffirming that empowering women through technology, mentorship and innovation is not only a matter of equality, but a strategic investment in East Africa's future prosperity. She urged all stakeholders to move beyond commitments and work collectively to ensure that no woman is left behind in the region's digital transformation journey. @EA_Bunge
