Galactic Federation races can make their technology look like anything they want, or hide it from us completely.

Arcturians consistently like these strange balloon shapes.

I think because it's nonthreatening, it allows humans to ask questions, and it's just funny to them.

They don't reveal themselves directly because they know that we can advance more quickly by solving our own problems and learning from our own mistakes.

People will keep guessing about the extraterrestrial presence on Earth, but we already have the answers.
