a laugh threatens to make its way up his throat, the raven haired boy nearly having to put his hand over his mouth to stop it.
“sorry—“ he pauses. “i didn’t think they’d freak out like that.”
“remember, i saved you.” he shot at the dog as if she could understand. “and wiped your butt when you were sick.” he tilted his eyes upwards, as if trying to continue his list— but decided it was best to stop while he was ahead.
“what’ve you been up too?”
“you know sometimes i’m convinced she likes you more than me.” there was a sharp, but playful tone of jealously in his words. he met her eyes with a sharp glance, watching as the mutt’s tail excitedly waved at her presence. +
"right. of course." she responds in a deep, stern tone and a firm nod. marti grins at fish as she gently frames her face with her hands and scratches behind her cute ears, leaning in as if telling the dog a secret, but making sure felix hears her.
"i totally scared +
he playfully rolled his eyes with a small huff, allowing his pack to meet the wooden floor once again.
“maybe dad just likes to be cautious.” he retorted to fish.
her brows lifted in amusement at the sight of him springing upward, a wide grin spreading over her features.
"a little on edge tonight?" she chuckled as she crouched down to greet fish, who had eagerly rushed to meet her. "did you know your daddy is a big ole' scaredy cat?"
the raven haired boy was one play date away from getting his dogs a treadmill. but for now he laid on the floor, trampled by their excited paws attempted to rip the rope from his hands.
“fuck.” he startled, shooting upright. “don’t do that.”

she had been sleeping over at felix's place longer than anticipated, but she couldn't deny the enjoyment she felt in coming home and hearing the physically intimidating male acting all goofy with his two dogs.
"sorry to break up the party—"
@FeralBeaut + the word made it out past his gritted teeth.
“that’s. the. point.” he eased up a moment more, scrambling for the fine line of concern and controlling. “if they come to this shop it is my obligation to protect you— so tell me (who).”
he’s striding into his shop (very) late & apologetic to @FeralBeaut . the unkept hair and coffee in hand were clear indicators of the type of night felix had.
@FeralBeaut + better part of him, however knew better. he wanted to believe that she could handle herself as she had obviously done for so many years— but if that were true why was she still wrapped up in a mess like this?
“i know it makes me involved.” he was honestly surprised +
@FeralBeaut + he knew they wouldn’t stop. lifeless people like that never fucking do. so with a gentle hand on her shoulder he asked.
“what do they want from you?”
@FeralBeaut + pity for the girl who was so clearly trying to escape her past and make something new of herself. he saw so much of himself into her that his word spilled over as if on autopilot.
“marti, i’m not worried about workplace manners, i’m worried about you.” +
@FeralBeaut “i didn’t mean to ease drop.” he answered as a reply to her striding through the door. “i just— who was that?” his curiosity had a hold on his neck that was clawing at a confusing rush of defensiveness. like the world would’ve collapsed had he taken one step away from her.
@FeralBeaut + cause her to disappear. after the yelling faded, he could feel the stiffness in his shoulders retreat & the hairs on his arms finally lay in their natural formation. felix wasn’t even consciously away of just how stagnant both the air and his body had become.
