Don't panic, but... Google has released a big AI update for SEO!
They called it: "AI Overviews"
About the update:
Google announced on May 14 that their AI generative experience is rolling out to the U.S. public soon. This isn't an opt-in feature; every user will receive it unless they opt-out.
What is "AI Overviews":
AI Overviews, formerly known as SGE (Search Generative Experience), are AI-generated answers to keywords that appear at the top of search results. We've already updated our SEO and content processes to increase the chances of being cited in these AI Overviews.
Impact on SEO traffic:
The impact will vary by industry and keyword. Informational content will be more affected than transactional content. E-commerce and local services should see minimal impact on revenue-driving traffic.
What Google isn’t telling us:
Google won’t specify when or for what keywords AI Overviews will appear. Clicks and impressions will be included in general numbers in the Google Search Console.
What you should do:
- Check important keywords for AI Overviews.
- See if you are cited and if the AI answer is accurate.
- Report any inaccuracies.
- Monitor keywords to adjust strategies quickly.
What we are doing as an agency:
- Testing, monitoring, and analyzing changes for over a year.
- Optimizing content for Generative Experience Optimization (GEO).
- Ensuring clear technical signals to Google.
- Creating comprehensive content for multi-step reasoning results.
- Tracking industry-level SEO impacts for timely strategy pivots.
- Focusing on promoting authority through citations and mentions.
Continuously analyzing and adapting to future changes.
Stay ahead of the curve and adapt your SEO strategy to leverage these AI-powered changes!
