@spiotta_nicole With 250 different languages they also struggle with the tribal membership and tribal tradition playing a role in education and fear of domination.
Approximately there are 290 million people in Nigeria of schooling age. Of this number the University level can hold only about 600,000 students about 54,000 students seek higher education in another country. #mu511
@Dan_Weaver_17 Muslims who follow Islam in the North and Christians who are mostly Catholic and Protestant in the South. It interesting to see such a split since religions are so mixed in society here in the US. #mu511
There is considerable rivalry between tribal & language groups who fear domination by rival groups. To maintain an ethnic and linguistic identity, it is important for these groups that schools do what the oral tradition did in the past. pg 424 #mu511
@Dan_Weaver_17 "If a candidate died during the exam, the test officials would roll his body in a mat and throw it over the test compound wall, rather than allowing relatives to come into the examination zone to claim it." OMG that's crazy, how secret are these tests?! #mu511
@kwduncan3 The fact that the school day is already 7 hrs can you imagine going to Juku classes for another 5 & 1/2 hrs then going home to do homework.
@dgjansen133@CSeachristMU I do see how standardized tests are necessary, I just wish that teachers taught how they wanted to rather than "teaching to the test" #MU511
