The main character isn't detached. He's larping nonchalance. Nonchalarp, if you will. He goes back and forth between insisting nothing changes his routines while busy worrying about what others think. It's somewhat queer (you see what I did there?) and bizarre, not in a good way.
Started reading The Stranger and was fascinated by the premise. I thought I would gain a new perspective about grief, since I myself can't feel it directly. But my initial excitement quickly went away...
