26 women-led groups supported under the Joint programme of Uganda Women Entrepreneurship and Youth Livelihood (UWEP|YLP) are exhibiting at the 32nd National Agricultural Show in Jinja through the Women Economic Empowerment for the Green Transformation (WEEG-UWEP) Project. The initiative is implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in partnership with @giz_uganda’s WE4D Programme, with implementation support from GOPA Worldwide Consultants GmbH.
The exhibition running until 4th July is creating opportunities for market access, business networking, product promotion, customer engagement and sustainable enterprise growth for women entrepreneurs across Eastern Uganda.
Hon @MercyLakiskis , State Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs is in Bujumbura - Burundi to attend the second Pan African Conference on Women and Girls Education in Africa organized by @AU_CIEFFA in collaboration with Government of Burundi.

Today, the Steering Committee for the Joint Programme of Youth Livelihood and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship (UWEP|YLP) convened at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development Headquarters to review implementation progress, take stock of key milestones, and provide strategic direction for the effective delivery of interventions that improve livelihoods for youth and women.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Angella Nakafeero, Commissioner for Gender and Women Affairs, who emphasized the importance of collaboration, accountability, and results in advancing economic empowerment across Uganda.
A total of 56 (20 male, 36 female) youth with disabilities have today sat for the Uganda Vocational Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) examinations at Kireka Rehabilitation Centre, in various courses including Carpentry, Hairdressing, Welding and Metal Fabrication.

Hon. Lt. Gen. @Tumukunde_, Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, today met with the Executive of the @NYCofUganda, the Ministry’s Technical Leadership led by Permanent Secretary @AggreyKibenge, and the NYC Secretariat to discuss sustainable solutions to challenges affecting Uganda’s youth.
Together with Hon. @MercyLakiskis, Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, and Hon. Jackeline Mbabazi, Minister of State for Elderly Affairs, the Minister urged young people to think outside the box and embrace innovative, long-term solutions.
Drawing from the success of the UPDF Wazalendo SACCO, which he helped establish, Hon. Tumukunde proposed exploring the establishment of a Youth Bank and a Women’s Bank to improve access to affordable financing and insurance, while reducing dependence on handouts.
To further address the root causes of youth challenges, the Minister constituted a task force chaired by Hon. Jackeline Mbabazi. The task force will develop recommendations to inform a forthcoming engagement with H.E. @KagutaMuseveni on sustainable interventions for Uganda’s youth and women.
The CHESASE Project TSU continued its follow-up visits to Hima and Tororo Cement in Tororo District to assess the companies' capacity to manage hazardous chemicals and CBRNE risks in the workplace.
The exercise is helping the Ministry evaluate the impact of chemical safety and security trainings conducted for manufacturers across the country and promote best practices for safer workplaces.
The older Refugees, 80 years and over, in Palorinya Settlement, Obongi district have today recieved their grant under the Social Cash Transfer for Elderly Refugees (SCTER) initiative. SCTER is implemented by @Mglsd_UG with support from @WFP_Uganda and the @IrlEmbUganda. Over 800 elderly refugees have so far benefited from the programme. @OPMUganda

The beneficiaries have today recieved Ugx.125,000, covering the months, March to July 2026. Like SAGE, elderly refugees recieve Ugx.25,000 delivered quarterly. Palorinya is 4th after Bidibidi, Lobule and Rhino Camp Refugee Settlements to benefit.

The visits, which are being conducted across selected districts in all regions of the country, are helping to track progress in the implementation of chemical safety and security measures, promote safer workplaces, and reduce risks associated with hazardous chemicals.
Following it's recent chemical safety and security trainings, the MGLSD's CHESASE Project team conducted follow-up visits to selected manufacturing companies in Lira District to document and assess the adoption of recommended workplace safety measures.
The Ministry is conducting a two-day orientation workshop for the 50 recruited Apprentices and 100 Graduate Volunteers and workplace supervisors under the National Apprenticeship Programme.

The Joint Programme of Youth Livelihood and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship is concluding a two-day refresher training in Kitgum District for district and municipal leaders and programme focal persons from the Acholi Sub-region.
The training has brought together RDCs, CAOs, DISOs, DPCs, Youth and Women Council Chairpersons, Town Clerks, DCDOs and Programme Focal Point Persons from Lamwo DLG, Agago DLG, Kitgum DLG, Kitgum MC and Pader DLG.
The engagement seeks to strengthen coordination among key stakeholders, enhance programme implementation, improve loan recovery and promote effective service delivery for youth and women beneficiaries across the sub-region.
The refresher training underscores the commitment of the Joint Programme to safeguarding programme resources and ensuring that youth and women continue to benefit from sustainable livelihood and entrepreneurship opportunities.
