Back in the Academy again (12/21)...but probably still a policy wonk/lawyer at heart.. Passionate about diversity and equality - tweeting in a personal capacity
Natural England wants to remove 90% of Dartmoor’s ponies.
Our Exmoor ponies are next. These animals have been here for thousands of years.
A government quango, destroying the countryside and its heritage.
This is utterly heartbreaking- what is wrong with developers?
The swifts are seen trying to return to their nests and the nests are no longer there

My heart is full of love for this.
The UK’s first rooftop ICU at King’s College Hospital allows critically ill patients to receive life support outdoors, giving them fresh air, sunlight, and nature to support recovery and wellbeing. Patients reported a 20 percent reduction in pain relief meds required.
Incredibly brave of this woman to give this (anonymous) account of the horrific erosion of women’s’ rights in Iraq ..just appalling
‘My 15-year-old relative was killed for refusing to marry her cousin. My family celebrated by dancing in the street’ https://t.co/TiQ7iFqH3K
Finsbury Park yesterday. The dhol carrying the chants, the whole street in step with it.
Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 22 years, and London did what London does.
Utterly ecocide/ vandalism. When did the U.K. come to hate our nature and wildlife so much? it seems every day brings another horror story of the sort of destruction of historic natural living assets which would have caused outraged newspaper articles just a few short years ago.
A stump - all that’s left of a 300 year old mulberry tree once the centrepiece of the garden at Ladywell House. The Ladywell Society has written to planners criticising the failure to protect the tree which was heavily “pruned” by developers. https://t.co/GKgXaB2MSl
@elenavacchelli summing up the 6 key themes which have arisen across the multiple papers/ animated debates within 2 packed days at the #umignet26 conference on ‘the hostile environment & local/community responses’ - a brilliant event. Thanks so much to #EKofman & @MiddlesexUni
Now we have a fascinating paper from @RimaSaini3105 discussing the ‘racialised right’ ethnic minority centre-> far right politicians. Bordering of perceptions of good/bad Minoritised communities and political elites of migrant heritage. #umignet26 has been so thought provoking
Final panel today before we move to the plenary then working groups/collaboration building activities@ at #umignet26 - great to hear a legal paper from another @migrefhealth colleague
@EgleDagilyte wearing a different hat in collaboration with fellow lawyer #sohini_preet
This is important. Our colleague #catherinekennelly of @migrefhealth giving a paper on the experiences of volunteers working to support asylum seekers in the community near large-scale sites/how the hostile environment impacts services & volunteers’ sense of security #umignet26
Interesting next paper on economic participation of refugees by colleague #drtabishzaman@AngliaRuskin excellent to have a new colleague join our network and present at #umignet26 forte first time
Our own @SMTsegay from @AngliaRuskin presenting at #umignet26 on his important research on migrant led (Eritrean) community organising to support refugees and asylum seekers. Tragically suicides of young asylum seekers in the U.K. increased the urgency for such support activities
Day 2 of #umignet26 - an absolutely fabulous and dynamic day yesterday- and this morning we have a keynote from the brilliant #michaelachan from @WORCrights on the legal and policy implications of new earned settlement proposals from @UKLabour & class, race and gender dimensions
Good grief, this horrendous: a large warehousing scheme which would uproot more than 10,000 trees is set to get approval. The three new warehouses in Carrington, Trafford, would destroy habitats for birds, bats, hedgehogs and amphibians.
