“Everyone has the ability to show kindness, inclusion and empathy. As people in health care, we have the power to focus on the strengths of immigrant families.” - @ArianaHoet#DISCOVERYx2022
“Take some time out of your day to do something for someone that’s in a worse situation than you are. It starts by doing that one thing.” - @luckymeck13#DISCOVERYx2022
Got to watch #DISCOVERYx hosted by @nationwidekids this afternoon. It is a series of TEDx inspired talks by employees of the hospital. Really powerful stuff. This particular message really resonated with me. We need to do better.
Diversity and inclusion is so much more than just hiring a melanated face. IT IS NOT ENOUGH to hire Black/minority candidates when you offer no real type of support and protection for them at your institution.
Today on Peds Hem/Onc, I was on my first ever all black team!
Black Attending. Black Senior. Black intern. Black NP. Treating our Black patients with Sickle Cell Anemia.
Thank you @NCHPedsRes for making this the best start to Black History Month! 💪🏿 #BHM
Black MATCH 2022 applicants a word of advice: if your top programs are lacking melanin, think long and hard about if you want to be the only Black resident in that program; especially if they don't have Black faculty.
Yes, you MATCH there this year but that doesn't mean 1/2
30% of the U.S. is Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American or Pacific Islander, yet <15% of U.S. physicians hold these identities. Changes to @NCHPedsRes recruitment are helping to close this gap: https://t.co/ESk0yx0EDX

Going to medical school as a low income student meant taking on nearly $300K in educational debt. That's grown to over $400K thanks to interest. Want more doctors who come from disadvantaged backgrounds? Make higher education more accessible & #CancelStudentDebt
