Our latest op-ed, “Bill C-5 is a good start, but not a complete strategy,” by BCA’s VP of Policy and Chief Economist Mike Holden, is out now in @TheHubCanada: https://t.co/lv1bSQaAmm

The piece explains why Bill C-5 is a welcome first step toward regulatory reform, but far from the comprehensive economic strategy Canada needs. To attract investment, advance major projects, and drive long-term prosperity, we need a coordinated national plan for growth.

Since 2015, employment in the federal public service has increased by an astounding 38.9%, vastly outpacing private sector job gains. Our latest EconMinute sheds light on which public sector departments have experienced the highest growth in recent years and why.

Does the data show us a federal bureaucracy simply trying to keep pace with Canada's economy, or are these numbers unsustainable?

@ScottCrockatt I feel unexpectedly validated.

Omg, I'm a mess. Let's go, Oilers.

Go show them what Edmonton’s got.

You may know him as the Former Premier of Alberta, or the longest serving Minister of Immigration, but on this episode of #TheBrief, we speak with the Hon. @jkenney in his role as immigration expert to breakdown Canada's immigration system, identify the opportunities and barriers present within, and outline the value of economic immigrants in Canadian society. “Given paucity of evidence, the off-label use of drugs […] in gender dysphoria treatment largely means an unregulated live experiment on children.”

@ScottCrockatt Is that today?!

While many are merry and bright with the holiday spirit this time of year, BCA's economics team might be a little more bah humbug. This week's #EconMinute dives into the inefficiencies of gift giving and why the gifts you buy this holiday season may not have the same value in the eye of the receiver. This has to be the most flagrant and hilarious example of a leading survey question I've ever seen.

@KelsoDylan omg.

An incredible kick off event tonight to welcome the #OneAlbertaOneCanada delegation to Ottawa. Thanks to Hal Eagletail for starting us in a good way and to MP @ChahalGeorge and Minister @R_Boissonnault for your warm and inspiring words of welcome.

[Mike Holden @MHoldenAB]

And you get the added bonus of working for me!

[Business Council of Alberta @BizCouncilAB]

Redistributing borrowed money may look virtuous, but at the end of the day it will just make us collectively poorer.

@jengerson It's not bad so far...

[Mike Holden @MHoldenAB]

We need better, more respectful discussions about public policy and social issues in Canada.

If you make statements on twitter that fit into the category of “Conservatives be like…” or “Liberals be like…” then you are part of the problem.

A few months ago, this raised some eyebrows. Here's the latest update. Unless housing completions in Alberta have magically tripled since December (housing starts have been just ~7k in the last 2 quarters), we have a problem. #cdnecon #abpoli
