🚨 ¿Sabían que entre 2006 y 2015, cuando el Barça portó el logo de UNICEF, Şenes Erzik era al mismo tiempo vicepresidente de la UEFA, director de proyectos de UNICEF y una de las figuras con influencia sobre el Comité de Árbitros y Juego Limpio?

Ese periodo coincidió exactamente con la etapa más exitosa del Barcelona y de Messi en Europa. Curiosamente, tras la salida de Erzik de la UEFA, el Barça no volvió a ganar una Champions.

Lo más llamativo es que UNICEF nunca pagó un solo euro por aparecer en la camiseta. El acuerdo consistía en que el Barça donaría 1.5 millones de euros al año, además del 0.7% de sus ingresos. Es decir, cuanto más avanzaba el club en la Champions, más dinero recibía UNICEF.

Un acuerdo redondo: el Barça ganaba prestigio con su imagen altruista, UNICEF obtenía más recursos gracias a los éxitos deportivos del club y Erzik dirigía proyectos financiados, en parte, por esas donaciones.

Fue precisamente en esos años cuando ocurrieron algunas de las decisiones arbitrales más polémicas en la historia de la Champions:

Stamford Bridge, la expulsión de Motta tras la simulación de Busquets, la roja a Van Persie, la expulsión de Pepe, el penal al Milan con el balón fuera de juego y el penal fuera del área contra el Manchester City. Todo ello, además, coincidiendo con el caso Negreira en España.

El primero que puso el tema sobre la mesa fue Mourinho. En su momento lo llamaron loco cuando dijo:

“No sé si son muy simpáticos o es el poder de UNICEF.”

🇦🇷👉🏻Jamás he dudado del talento de Messi. Incluso antes de ganar una Copa del Mundo, yo ya lo consideraba muy por encima de Maradona. Hubo un tiempo en el que pensé que, además de ser un fuera de serie, tenía una fortuna extraordinaria.

Llegué a creer que lo de Stamford Bridge, los constantes cambios en los criterios del Balón de Oro que terminaban beneficiándolo, que el Barcelona pasara dos años sin que le marcaran un penal en contra, la remontada ante el PSG o que se organizaran cinco Copas América en apenas diez años, eran simplemente parte de ese “duendecillo” de la suerte. Y sonaba lógico: la fortuna suele sonreírle a los exitosos.

Pero cuando estalló el caso Negreira, todo empezó a cobrar sentido. Nunca fue suerte, sino un sistema que, desde la época de UNICEF como patrocinador del Barça, fue construyéndose para encumbrarlo a él, a su club y, posteriormente, a su selección.

Tras el Mundial de Qatar 2022 y la Copa América 2024, para mí ya no quedaban dudas: era el elegido del sistema. Adidas, la Conmebol e Infantino le revivieron la carrera a nivel de selecciones, después de que amenazara con retirarse.

Probablemente ganará un segundo Mundial, será elegido como el mejor jugador del torneo y le regalarán otro Balón de Oro, aunque juegue en la MLS. Pero el daño a su legado, ya es irreversible. Hoy, la mayoría de aficionados al futbol (y no aficionados) lo rechazan.

A diferencia de otras épocas, las futuras generaciones tendrán al alcance una enorme cantidad de videos, documentos y testimonios para confirmar, que la narrativa de que Messi es el “GOAT” fue una de las grandes mentiras en la historia del futbol.

No.

Football wins when the rules are applied equally.

Football wins when VAR is a shield for fairness, not a sword that appears only when convenient.

Because from where I’m standing, Egypt didn’t just lose 3-2.

Egypt lost a goal, lost two penalty appeals, lost faith in consistency, and eventually lost a place in the quarter-finals.

Maybe Argentina deserved to advance.

Maybe they didn’t.

That’s football.

But what will make people angry isn’t the result.

It’s the feeling that one team was forced to play against eleven men, the clock, and a set of decisions that seemed to change shape whenever the game demanded it.

And that’s why this match will be remembered long after the scoreline is forgotten.”
