In today's Fashion Fireside Chat, Mimi Plange featured Mimi Plange, fashion designer and creative director of @MIMIPLANGE, in conversation with Mucha Hazel Nyandoro.

Plange explained how she chose a different path to build her brand: “We decided not to do what was typical of our peers but to build our brand quietly at the beginning, and shortly bigger brands wanted to work with us.”

Her philosophy is rooted in creativity backed by discipline and business focus. “Everything is strategy. The clothes I make are not about me, thinking about customers is essential if you want to sell millions of items.”

She also shared how her collections combine editorial pieces with wearable designs, and how her work tells a different African story by using quilting and leather techniques inspired by cultural traditions.

🚨ICYMI🇬🇭👟: Ghanaian-American designer, @MIMIPLANGE, is the creator behind @nikebasketball latest Lebron sneaker collection known as the “Lebron XX x Mimi Plange Ceremony.”

The animation was also put together by another Ghanaian, Francis Y. Brown of @animaxfyb.

According to @HYPEBEAST, Plange crafted a “Ceremony” colorway of LeBron’s 20th signature sneaker that connects his legacy in basketball.

The design considers LeBron’s journey as the most-anticipated draft prospect of all-time to a wise veteran and notes its similarities to the youth-to-elder transformation celebrated by the Maasai people of Africa.
