Happy weekend! I thought I’d share this photo of a Wool Carder Bee that was in my garden in July, taken with my macro lens. The first one I’ve seen and an absolute beauty! 🐝💛
The blue-banded bee (Amegilla cingulata) is notable not only for its striking blue stripes but also for its 'buzz pollination' technique, where the bee vibrates to release pollen from flowers that other bees cannot access.

Happy Saturday! I wasn’t the only one enjoying the autumn sunshine! This little Blue Tit was quietly soaking it up, sitting among the colourful trees! Such a fabulous time of year 💛💙💛
GM! Despite the heat, the solitary bees were busy nesting at my insect hotel yesterday! A new bee for me too, the Orange-vented Mason bee.
Please remember bees need water too! A shallow bowl with some pebbles works well! 🐝🧡
With alot of 'bee farms' on social media where you never see their honey extraction set up we thought lets have a look in our extraction room and how we extract Heather Honey.. We can extract 600-1000kg of honey a day here from comb to clean honey.

Do bumblebees prefer continuous over interrupted strings to get to an artificial flower with nectar? Yes ... but does this mean that they understand the physics of a continuous string...? Find out in our latest paper in eLife: https://t.co/BBLqCsAuBU
One in three mouthfuls of our food are due to the hard work of pollinating insects, including bumblebees. But insect populations are crashing. Help them by growing nectar-rich plants that flower in autumn, winter and early spring.

Barcodes appear to show a flush of unrecognised species among Mexican bumblebees, but at least some of them may be explained by barcode-like pseudogenes - we begin to explore this for the weisi-complex (pic of B. weisi worker in Chiapas 2023)

News clip of our rare bumblebee finding in South Kent. Not seen here for over 12 years. Found at a small holding run by Jaqui Bamford, who we have been working with for over 3 years. Photos by @misspennymetal & first recorded by Clare Marshall. @BumblebeeTrust#bumblebees#bee
Bee.
Everybody quiet down now and get some sleep.
Dream of a planet where people read the whole sentence before reacting, checked the facts before forming an opinion, accepted the good rather than seeking the nasty. Loved themselves enough to love life.

September is your last chance to see many of the UK’s common bumblebees⚠️
This month, many bumblebee nests will naturally come to an end and new queens will settle down to hibernate over the winter👑💤
