I want to be a great leader.
But I also want to be a great colleague.
Here’s the deal: I think school culture is what drives employee satisfaction. And culture is a function of the collective attitudes and camaraderie of the adults in the building. We are in this together!
Social media can be good when it connects us, teaches us, challenges us, inspires us.... when it provides a safe space. But when it adds stress to our lives, we should have the courage to get off. The real world is better anyway.
Good luck to @Marion_Baseball vs Central DeWitt tonight for a trip to the state tournament next week. Game time is 7:00 at Central DeWitt HS. Get out and support!! #leaveitonthefield
#ThoughtForTheDay As school admin continue to make decisions during these unprecedented times remember, you don't have to be perfect to be effective. Gather input & lead w/humility, transparency, & be flexible in your decisions. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. #Culturize
So true Danny Steele, many leaders fear those tough conversations but we need to establish what our current reality is and sugar cote what we wish our reality is.
If you’re a leader, I think it’s important to create a culture where people feel free to tell you what you NEED to hear... not necessarily what you WANT to hear.
#ThoughtForTheDay I often hear staff talk about how they are like a family. Yet, they don’t know the names of every staff member. “Do you know the name of every teacher, para, secretary, custodian, counselor, kitchen staff, etc. in your school?” Never too late 2 start. #Culturize
#ThoughtForTheDay What if anytime a student or staff member was absent from school for a minimum of two days in a row teachers & admin would call to check on status, needs & additional support? Kind, caring & supportive gestures go a long way! It’s the little things. #Culturize
#ThoughtForTheDay The 3 most powerful words that will define your organization’s culture & success:
MISSION: Why do we exist?
VISION: What do we hope to become?
VALUES: How will we behave on a daily basis in order to fulfill our mission and achieve our vision?
#Culturize
Consider this on fathers day. Being a father is being a teacher, a leader, a mentor, a friend, and a critic. Sometimes a princess, and sometimes a backstop. To you all you fathers and teachers out there, keep doing what you do to mold our future.
Students have done an excellent job completing work during this crisis. However, we must consider their social emotional component when we return. Students will need far more compassion then ever.
#ThoughtForTheDay Sometimes the drive to compete to be the best can lead to a negative culture. Successful schools don’t have staff who are jealous & envious. They are transparent as they plan, share, support & celebrate one another in their growth towards excellence. #Culturize
#ThoughtForTheDay Don’t get upset when things do not work out the way you hoped they would. Instead, push reset and remind yourself of all of the good things you aren’t paying attention to. #LiveYourExcellence
