Opinion | 'If the BBC is to earn its place in a rapidly changing media environment, it must be able to offer something that no other provider does,' writes Robin Lustig

@cmackinlay On my travels, @Se_Railway have been much improved since I was last a regular pre-Covid. Very clear information and assistance the other week during the Bermondsey fire. Prompt refunds. There can be hassle, and it is annoying, but there is some genuine pride back among staff
@MJJHunter@patrickwintour I’d be up for that. Not sure the BBC is ready yet for that kind of thinking & collaboration. Still operates in ‘silos’. Of all the things to cut I just can’t understand the axing of The World Tonight & R4 Midnight News. I just don’t understand their thinking.
The coincidence of these posts makes me think — would it not be better to cut the bland repetive news channel filler and run the distinctive Radio Four shows on TV? Ditto the Midnight News. No one upset by audio streaming on video platforms. Cc @patrickwintour@radioparr
Great lee Dixon / Gabriel Clarke combo from ITV. Ageing 90s boyband emince grise interviewed by Victorian hanging judge somehow beamed in from the assiszes
Warsh says Fed rate setters “using pencils” when submitting predictions of rate rise timings in a fast-changing world. Sounds like the dot-plot’s days are numbered as the world’s most influential central bank reviews its comms
Warsh’s distaste for forward guidance confirmed, and he won’t issue predictions for the dot plot, while fellow FOMC members carry on with doing so in the Summary of Economic Projections

Le New York Times teste discrètement la bascule en accès libre de ses articles principaux à la Une, avec un message très visible.
Une expérimentation visant à booster la page d’accueil dans une ère où le trafic direct se raréfie ?
By attacking the BBC, Labour politicians are handing the media over Elon Musk and the oligarchs. There are times when I cannot find the words to describe the depth of their stupidity
The World Tonight on @bbcradio4 is treats news – global news – in an unhysterical & non-sensationalised way. It doesn't treat gossip as news. & clearly, for those reasons, it must die, as must Crossing Continents. 'Global' doesn't fit with the times. Our horizons are shrinking.
Timely moment to draw attention to this. And to voice hope that the Midnight News in particular may yet be saved; alongwith The World Tonight. No one else doew radio like that.
Big day for new Fed chair Kevin Warsh -- stepping into the market spotlight as Trump demands rate cuts and the market is priced for a hike before the end of the year. Is he packing a piece?

@HLTCO@THRIIIIKER Nowt wrong with finding the joy in life and then relishing it, if you ask me. More than enough negativity and snark knocking about. And if the neggy snarks don’t like it, there is plenty of they can wallow in out there. Jollity and fun can exist too. Life’s rich pattern, etc
@Mars01722137923@jaykelly26 To be fair, Tartan Army nearly always very well behaved even when tanked up — more joie de vivre and bon homie than anything else. But that brew is not meant for use as marching juice! I bet they have brought some with them!
