The current increase of Monetary Policy Rate by 400 basis points to 22.75% from 18.75% is the most ridiculous thing by Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee. It will not have effect on Nigeria’s galloping inflation, while it will be damaging to investors across the board.
I can’t believe that President Tinubu has changed the NYSC Act to allow a serving corps member to take up a full time job, just to save his minister, Hannatu Musawa, from prosecution!
As long as corrupt Nigerian politicians and officials can freely travel to Dubai and invest there, they will continue to tell the US to go hell with their visa restriction policies.
The Sudanese Embassy in Nigeria says there are about 10,000 Nig students in Sudan. The Union of Nig Students in Sudan gave the figure of 13,000. Garba Shehu, Buhari’s SA said the figure is 5000. How can Nig plan evacuation without knowing the number of those to be evacuated?
With barely five weeks to the end of his tenure, Pres. Buhari is asking Nigerians to forgive him for his ‘errors’. Throughout his presidency, Buhari has never cared about public opinion. How I wish there is a referendum to show how many Nigerians are willing to forgive him!
The ongoing conflict in Sudan should be a matter of concern to Nigeria. One, there are at least 3 million Sudanese of Nigerian ancestry. Two, through the border with Chad, it will be easy to choke Nig with arms from an uncontrolled conflict in Sudan, much easier than Libya.
What’s happening! Nigerian girls seem to be beating their male counterparts both in brain and brawn. The girls proved it in the just concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and in the 2022 WAEC results, where 39.02% of the female candidates passed against 37.34% for the male.
Same week a TikTok post put Nigeria as the ‘world’s 2nd most hated nation’ went viral, Tobi Amusan’s victory in the Women 100m hurdles at the WAC in Oregon, disproved this jaundiced notion. Tobi received glowing accolades all over the world for herself and her country, Nigeria!
@kanurishuwagirl@iish_aa@AzmanAir On 11/07 my flight from Abv to KANO on Max Air was scheduled to take off at 12.30pm. I arrived at airport at 11am - 1hr 30 mins to the take off time, only to be told that the flight had departed an hour earlier. On occasions like this I envy those who can take alcohol!
Congratulations Nigeria! The British can only go for one out of the two most credible candidates for their next Prime Minister - Kemi or Rishi-Rishi; and it’s still ‘Go low, low, low, low, Buga Won’!
Nigerians always defy conventional logic. Everywhere the Labor Party is a workers’ party, centre-left of the pol spectrum, and committed to the policy of wealth redistribution through taxing the rich. In Nig the two leaders of the Labor Party are not workers, but big capitalists!
Nigeria has multiple challenges, but probably internal insecurity is currently the leading one. Unfortunately, none of the candidates in the forthcoming presidential elections can speak convincingly for five minutes on how to tackle this problem.
There’s wisdom in the US National Rifle Association’s theory: ‘The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is good guy with a gun.’ If the Nigerian State cannot protect the lives of its real folks from daily attacks by bandits, the state should arm them to defend themselves!
It’s becoming extremely difficult to keep dressing Buhari in the garb of angel with all the devils around him. Aren’t we judged again by the company we keep?
I’m in a state of hypnosis even as a Fulani. How can the Fulani, the most disliked, cursed, and anathematized group in Nigeria continue to play pantomime with the political destiny of Nigeria? What! The Fulani are now skimming to bring backJonathan as the next Pres of Nigeria!!
According to the May 1, 2022 edition of ‘World Beyond War,’ about 40% of US Foreign Aid to developing countries is military weapon supplied out of the ‘kindness of the heart.’ This figure would increase significantly this year, with the generous US weapon ‘aid’ to Ukraine.
If the Russia-Ukraine war becomes a major European War like the ‘1st and 2nd Word Wars’, hopefully African countries - now sovereign states - wouldn’t find themselves involved. But, I wouldn’t be surprised, if Washington, Paris or London draft some African countries into it!
A friend posted a newspaper cutting with a caption, ‘ASUU MAY CALL OFF STRIKE’. When I looked closer, I saw it was from the ‘Daily Sketch’ of November, 1981 - 41 years ago and still on! I now realize that ASUU Strike itself can be a good topic for professorial research work!
In Nigeria, there is always an inverse relationship between politics and logic. Imagine, candidates for presidential election in a democracy, gleefully submitting themselves for anointment by a former dictator! And, the society sees it as a normal democratic succession process!!
