He replied: “Say: Lā ilāha illā Allāh, al-Fattāḥ al-ʿAlīm, al-Raqīb al-Mannān (There is no deity except Allah, the Opener, the All-Knowing, the Watchful, the Bestower).” Thereafter, he began to recite this abundantly, and he performed the pilgrimage in that very year.”
Al-Maqrizi relates in his ʿUqūd: “On one occasion, al-Damiri met me and said: ‘I saw in a dream that I was saying to someone: “It has been a long time since I last visited the Ancient House (al-Bayt al-ʿAtīq), and my longing for it has greatly increased.”...
al-Shūnī vanished from sight and the Messenger of Allāh manifested . I greeted him ]. I later recounted this dream to the Shaykh, and he said: “My son, nothing in my entire life has brought me such joy . And if your vision is true, my body shall never decay.” [al-Shaʿrānī]

When lunch or dinner arrived, he would give it to the poor of MAKKAH and go hungry himself. He never grew weary of performing tawaf day and night. During the journey, you would hardly hear from him a word of idle talk, let alone backbiting or any disparaging remarks about anyone.
Imam Abd al-Wahhāb Al-Sha’rān writes: “In the three journeys I undertook, I did not see anyone among the scholars who had performed the pilgrimage with such piety and scrupulousness in their food and clothing as my brother, the righteous Shaykh Shams al-Din al-Khatib al-Sharbini—
He would only ride when he was extremely tired, out of mercy for the camel. Then he performed the pilgrimage alone, not breaking his state of ihram until he was free of it on the days of Mina. Most of his days in Mecca and elsewhere were spent fasting.
