There is something deeply unhealthy happening in our public discourse.

When people question government policy, they are called extremists.

When they raise concerns about immigration or social cohesion, they are called racists.

When they question public-health decisions or speak about vaccine injuries, they are called anti-vaxxers.

When they challenge the constitutional status quo or discuss Alberta’s future, they are called traitors.

These labels are rarely intended to encourage dialogue. They are used to end it.

But questioning government is not extremism.

Challenging existing laws is not lawlessness.

Discussing constitutional change is not disloyalty.

And disagreeing with government policy does not make someone dangerous.

In a healthy democracy, citizens are free to question authority, challenge prevailing ideas and advocate for change. That is not a threat to democracy. It is democracy.

The real danger is a political culture that silences legitimate concerns, punishes disagreement, disparages citizens and treats them as enemies simply because they refuse to conform.

We will not rebuild public trust by ignoring this reality. We will rebuild public trust by listening, answering difficult questions and addressing the substance of their concerns.

Dialogue does not weaken a country. Refusing to have it does.

1/ Tamara Lich and Chris Barber SENTENCING 🧵

The MOST comprehensive coverage ANYWHERE. Follow along for my courtroom reporting live from Ottawa.

It's finally here. Today Tamara and Chris will learn their fate.

The government has turned them into boogeymen and blamed them for the "ills" of the Freedom Convoy. I have sat through the bulk of this trial and the extraordinary unimpressive evidence the crown has presented.

Social media posts saying hold the line. Social media posts saying be peaceful and Ioving. Social media posts BEGGING for communication with the government stepping on us all falling in deaf ears. And a couple posts expressing frustration with the government's boot.

The trucker protest saved lives. That's a fact.

And for that the government has said Chris and Tamara should spend 8 and 7 years in prison respectively.

Tamara beat all of her charges except 1 - mischief.

Chris Barber beat almost all of his charges except mischief and counselling disobey a court order.

So they should go to jail for the better part of a decade? While other, often violent protesters on the left walk free or have their charges dropped?

It's wrong. It's unfair. It's unjust.

The administration of justice requires a fair and fitting sentence for the crime. Even 6 months in jail would be unfit to the crime and the facts of the case. Parity. Impact. Circumstances.

These are non-violent offences and first time offenders with impeccable family and professional lives. They are extraordinarily pro social and probably have some of the greatest public support for any convicted person in Canada in many, many years.

Distinguished defence attorney Lawrence Greenspon said it himself. It's very, very rare for him to be able to talk about the POSITIVE IMPACT of a client's crime. Yet alone so extensively. The letters of support flooded in telling him just how much positive change the trucker protest made in their lives. Some said it saved them.

And it's all true. In my humble opinion, the life-saving impact of the trucker protest vastly outweighs any negative impact of horns.

Horns which Tamara never honked. Horns which they're not responsible for. Other people's actions.

But the crown said no, they stood SHOULDER TO SHOULDER with them. They're a principal and a party, and an aider and abettor to... Trucks parked on the street and horns.

So 7+ years in jail?

This is a dark day for our country. Pray for our country. Pray for Chris and Tamara.

1/ 🧵 Doug Ford's provincial crown attorneys will be in Ottawa court today arguing that Freedom Convoy organizer Chris Barber's truck should be seized and destroyed.

Given the lack of punishments given to people convicted of heinous crimes, this affront to justice is blatantly political, highly inappropriate, and in any sane world, should be dismissed immediately.

Chris is convicted of 1 count of mischief and 1 count of counsel disobey court order (that one is because Chris posted a cheeky TikTok suggesting an empty intersection looked "lonely.")

He is one of the people who took his truck OUT of the city. He did that on February 8th. Not only that, but he helped move other trucks out of residential zones and onto Wellington, where they could speak to their government who was so DESPERATE to ignore them. That desperation stretched to the point where Canada's government used Canadian Forces assets and special forces to spy on them and potentially more.

I'm sure if they could have done more and gotten away with it, they would have. "How many tanks do you figure we need, pal?"

This after years of abuse against Canadians, segregation and division of our society. A crime in itself in any honest retrospection.

Big Red is Barber's income. It has been in his family for the entirety of his children's lives. They were partially raised in that truck. That truck hauls farm equipment. That truck feeds our country. Real work.

Chris Barber recently suffered a horrific scare when his son Jonathan, who has followed in his dad's footsteps to drive trucks, escaped injury after a serious accident. Jonathan was hauling, you guessed it, farming equipment to feed our country when an impatient driver attempted to pass on the right. Thankfully everyone is okay but the accident has significantly harmed the Barber's trucking business and put them down a truck in the busiest time of the year.

It would be unjust, egregious, an insult and injury to the administration of justice to do anything but dismiss the crown's vengeful and political pursuit to destroy Barber's livelihood.

The crown should go back to the work of prosecuting murderers, car thieves, drug lords and home invaders, of which our country has so many and our courts have so little time.

End this political charade.

After the Freedom Convoy the city introduced $1300 fines for using amplification equipment without a permit and for encumbering a highway in an attempt to prevent further protests.

Palestinian demonstrations block downtown streets every weekend and use amplification equipment without permits.

I have not seen a single person get fined for blocking a road or using amplification equipment.

The law does not apply equally in Ottawa.

Let me recap my week.

On Monday I went to a Pierre Poilievre rally in Edmonton. I saw that there were at least 7,000 people there with my own eyes. The RCMP said as many as 12,000. The MSM tried to downplay it, saying it was only 1,000, and that Pierre was bragging about how "size matters". I left absolutely energized

On Tuesday I went to a Mark Carney event. It was kept secret until a few hours prior, was only attended by 900 people (150 of whom where volunteers and security). I left feeling dumber and discouraged at some fellow Calgarians you believe all the lies.

On Wednesday & Thursday I went to Austin, Texas. No issues whatsoever at the border. The city is vibrant and their economy is booming. When I went to small businesses, do you know who was working? Teens and young adults. While the older citizens hold good full-time jobs in the private sector.

Yesterday I investigated smoke coming to my yard. It was a small brush fire, set off by accident by humans. It wasn't climate change, and a few firemen and organized neighbours put it out quickly.

Don't believe anything you hear on mainstream media folks, they're just pumping you up with fear and lies.

This hits close to home for me...

I'm a carpenter by trade. I've been at it for about 20 years and have been running my own businesses for 15.

There have been slow times over the years, a few worse than others, but I have never seen a downturn like I've noticed over the last year.

It's not just carpentry. I speak to different trades daily and hear the same story from all of them, work is slow.

Material costs are through the roof, people don't have the disposable income they used to. This problem is only getting worse.

On top of already having to compete for scarce work, we are now going to have to compete with illegal aliens?

This is all by design. Our government wants to destroy us.
