लगभग ठीक एक साल पहले, प्रधानमंत्री मोदी राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप के दोबारा चुने जाने पर उन्हें बधाई देने के लिए व्हाइट हाउस पहुँचे थे। वहाँ उन्होंने अपनी मशहूर झप्पी कूटनीति का पूरा प्रदर्शन किया।भारत-अमेरिका संबंध इससे पहले कभी इतने उज्ज्वल नहीं लगे थे।

इसके तुरंत बाद एक ट्रेड डील के लिए बातचीत शुरू हुई। लेकिन 10 मई, 2025 की शाम को राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप द्वारा ऑपरेशन सिंदूर को रोकने की पहली घोषणा किए जाने के बाद से हालात बिगड़ने लगे। इसके बाद, राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप ने पाकिस्तान के साथ निकटता दिखाते हुए फील्ड मार्शल आसिम मुनीर की गर्मजोशी से मेजबानी की, जिससे पीएम मोदी की खोखली झप्पी कूटनीति की पोल खुल गई।

राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप ने भारतीय समय के अनुसार बहुत देर रात ट्रेड डील की घोषणा की। राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप द्वारा दी गई जानकारी से यह बिल्कुल साफ है कि प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने-जैसा उन्होंने 10 मई, 2025 को किया था-पूरी तरह आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया है। उन्होंने निश्चित रूप से राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप को तुष्ट किया है। घटनाओं की इस दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण श्रृंखला से भारत की स्थिति कमजोर पड़ गई है।

संसद सत्र चल रहा है। यूरोपीय संघ (EU) और संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका (US)-दोनों के साथ हुए व्यापार समझौतों का पूरा टेक्स्ट संसद के दोनों सदनों की मेज़ पर रखा जाना चाहिए और उस पर बहस होनी चाहिए-खासकर इसलिए कि अमेरिका की कृषि मंत्री ब्रुक रोलिन्स ने यह दावा करते हुए एक बयान जारी किया है कि भारत ने अमेरिका से कृषि आयात को उदार बनाया है।
