I've had some regrets about stepping away from X and MMA, but honestly it was good for me. My eye for #MMA injuries is sharper than ever now! Easing back into the space. If you were one of those who previously followed me, I humbly ask that you do so again.
Unpopular take probably. I think any fighter who is KO’d cold like that must leave the cage as soon as possible, with or without help, before the winner is announced. A KO is brain trauma by definition and immediate medical assessment is standard of care. #UFC331
This screen cap of Van shows how much great toe (“big” toe) extension is needed when sprawling to defend a take down attempt. Something seemingly as meaningless as a stiff toe joint can make the difference. #UFC331
The commentary team talking about front kicks to a "locked" knee joint. That means the knee fully extended/straight, and more importantly, the foot planted on the ground when the knee is kicked. That's when that kick can be so damaging. #UFC331
Please remember as you watch Ferreira fight. It is entirely possible to have a fractured fibula, on the outside of lower leg, and still be bouncing and moving. It is not a weight-bearing bone. It's not always just the calf that is affected, Joe Rogan! #UFC331
Finally, how will he react if he has sustained isometric contraction of the left arm, as when holding his opponent on the cage. Any residual weakness of the arm will be evident here. #UFC331
Pantoja may have avoided surgery on his left elbow after that gruesome injury, but given the injury mechanism, I’m sure he had some ligament damage at the inside of his elbow. There are 3 distinct ligament bundles there that are susceptible. #UFC331
What I’ll be watching relative to this injury- While I doubt Van will look for an armbar submission, there’s always a chance. That could be a problem for Pantoja. Watch if he has to post on an extended left arm during a scramble. #UFC331
