During the recent WHO 73rd regional committee meeting held in Gaborone, Botswana, the late Gambian-born Dr. Ebrima Malick Samba received a posthumous award in recognition of his exemplary contribution to the work of WHO between 1995 and 2000. This prestigious award, which was received by Dr. Samateh, the current #Gambian Minister of Health, is a testament to Dr. Samba's immense dedication and impact in the field of global public health.
But Dr. Samba was more than just a renowned doctor and #WHO representative. To his kids, Adama @kindaysamba , and Akims, he was DADDY. To us, his nieces and nephews, he was 'NIJAI EBOU'. To the rest of the Gambians, he was that philanthropist who not only served as a doctor but also pioneered the construction of Muslim High School, an institution that has educated and continues to educate numerous individuals.
For all of us, Dr. Samba was a hero, a mentor, and a man full of wisdom and love for his family. Today, we honor his memory and celebrate his remarkable legacy. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the impact he had on our lives and the lives of so many others.
As we pay tribute to Dr. Samba, let us remember to uphold his values and continue his noble work in improving healthcare and education in The Gambia and beyond.
Rest in peace, Dr. Ebrima Malick Samba. Your legacy lives on in our hearts and in the lives you touched.
