I'm querying a boy-led lower YA fantasy, which means the closest comps that I've been able to find are a bit older. But I worry it's sinking me in the trenches, making the story seem out of date, not "fresh"

@dalewritesstuff It does sting a bit that YA as an age category has underserved so many readers that now it's viewed as a genre

Like I wish that people didn't go YA="girl books." But I know part of that IS publishing's fault rather than laziness + misogyny from readers (which is also a problem)
