Six weeks after the election, this remains the simplest reason why Democrats lost the White House.
It also shows how 2024's best comparison might be 1968 -- when Humphrey tried to succeed LBJ and lost
When I was a dipshit young hack, I always thought the broader the net we cast in campaigns, the more votes we could get. Nowadays, there is a huge swath of voters my party doesn’t even try with - and it’s cost us.
I say some things in this @mmurraypolitics analysis —>
Kamala Harris and Democrats succeeded with frequent and highly engaged voters in the 2024 presidential election.
Their problem: They lost with most everyone else. https://t.co/8UxNo44D1s
Findings from the final national NBC News poll...
2024 was the 6th-consecutive "change" election -- in which either the White House or one chamber of Congress switched party control.
One explanation behind all of this change: Super-majorities of voters remain dissatisfied with the nation's direction: https://t.co/uWdUPbmbgi
Some of the key findings in our new national NBC News poll - beyond the horserace.
1. Harris' popularity has declined after her post-debate spike -- from 48% positive, 45% negative in Sept (+3), to 43% positive, 49% negative now (-6) https://t.co/1nIQB9nnq9
4. And our poll tested Harris vs. Trump on 9 different issues and presidential qualities.
Harris' top ones: abortion, health care, competency
Trump's top ones: border, the Middle East and cost of living.
Note: Harris is +5 on change, but that's down from +9 in Sept
The NBC/Telemundo/CNBC Latino poll was conducted Sept 16-23 of 1,000 registered Latino voters, 20% of whom were interviewed in Spanish. It has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1%
This is also notable in the poll: Democrats lead by 27pts on which party better addresses the concerns of the Hispanic community. But on "sharing your values," that Dem lead is 11pts -- down from 19pts in 2022
