R&B legend and Neo-Soul Icon D’Angelo Passed Away One Year Ago Today at 51 Years Old 🤍🎶
Remembering a true legend 🕊️
D’Angelo helped reshape modern R&B with a catalog that was small in number but enormous in influence. Beginning with Brown Sugar in 1995, he brought gospel, funk, soul, jazz, and hip-hop together with a sound that felt both rooted in the past and completely his own. Voodoo followed with songs like “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” while his long-awaited return with Black Messiah proved that even after years away, his artistry had lost none of its power.
His music also found its way into movies, television, and video games, introducing his unmistakable sound to audiences far beyond his albums:
“Unshaken” (Red Dead Redemption 2)
“Sugah Daddy” (Insecure)
“She’s Always in My Hair” (Scream 2)
“Devil’s Pie” (Belly)
Across just three studio albums, D’Angelo earned four Grammy Awards and became one of the defining voices of the neo-soul movement. His influence can still be heard in generations of R&B and soul artists who followed.
D’Angelo passed away on October 14, 2025, at just 51 years old, but Brown Sugar, Voodoo, Black Messiah, and the unmistakable groove behind his music ensure that his voice remains very much alive. 🤍
Next week, we celebrate the release of #StreetFighter, in theaters October 16th.
Tonight, we handle business. There’s a line of superstars gunning for me who don’t give a damn about my legacy. They want what I’ve got. The money, the power, and MY respect. Not happening.
Tonight, we bring LA back to reality.
Tomorrow, we head to Hollywood for the premiere! ☝🏽

It’s your heavenly birthday! I love continuously learning about you, remembering you, and honoring you in any way there is. I’m blessed to be my fathers daughter, you were an amazing dad to my sisters & I, and overall stand up man that I can say this world still misses ♥️
As Nolan Wells’ family continues seeking answers about his death, I think of my uncle, Reverend A.D. King, my father’s only brother.
Uncle A.D. was found dead in his swimming pool in July 1969. Fifty-seven years later, my family still carries unanswered questions about the circumstances of his death.
There are details that make Nolan’s family’s questions painfully familiar. Both were strong swimmers. Uncle A.D. had a bruised forehead and no water in his lungs. Nolan also had bruising on his head and no water in his lungs or airways. His cause and manner of death remain undetermined.
I pray Nolan’s family receives a thorough, transparent investigation and the answers they deserve. I pray they do not have to live with decades of unanswered questions as my family has.
Grief is already a heavy burden. Families deserve truth, and their loved ones deserve to be remembered for the fullness of their lives.

That time Rihanna was late for the Balmain show in Paris and Olivier Rousteing refused to start without her.
“I'm really freaking out. This show is for her. She's Balmain Woman, my muse. […] We can wait!”
YOU CAN'T BAN A VOICE.
"I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" was the #3 most challenged book of the 1990s and #6 of the 2000s.
In 2026, the fight continues.
This #BannedBooksWeek, we stand for Dr. Maya Angelou's words and everyone's freedom to read them.
