“That is the importance of this immortal statue – a monument that will outlive us all – that we in The American Legion were honored to sponsor and support in memory of our founding leader and the standards he set and demonstrated for the free world.”
National Commander Dan Wiley delivers an inspiring D-Day address in Normandy, paying tribute to American Legion founder Theodore Roosevelt, Jr.

“One of those 26,000-plus who did not come home was my uncle, who served in the ball turret of a B17. He flew in the first American attack on Berlin in March 1944. His 28th combat mission – 82 years ago last month – would be his last. Everyone who did not come home from war had a name. My uncle’s name was Vernon Kaufman. I never met him. And yet, I will never forget him.”
In advance of the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, National Commander Dan Wiley pays a special tribute to the heroes – one personal – of World War II.

Our #BeTheOne mission aims to reduce the number of veterans & servicemembers lost to suicide. Our goal is to reduce the stigma associated with #mentalhealth treatment, providing free #suicideprevention training & empower everyone to take appropriate action when a veteran or servicemember may be at risk – one life at a time.

The Warrior Right to Repair Act, introduced by @SenWarren & @TimSheehyMT is an important step toward improving the readiness of the armed forces. The legislation ensures that servicemembers have access to the intellectual property and technical data necessary to maintain the systems they rely on to fight and win the nation’s wars. Currently, many contracts for critical platforms include provisions that limit the @DeptofWar's ability to conduct repairs. The American Legion supports legislation requiring contractors to provide fair and reasonable access to the materials the military needs to properly maintain its equipment.
