Happy 69th birthday to Northfield native Kevin Sevcik, who the #MNTwins drafted out of @StOlaf in 1978.
Fun Fact: He was teammates at Elizabethton with Jesse Orosco. After Sevcik's brief stint in pro ball he enjoyed a long townball career and remained a big Twins fan. It must have seemed surreal to see Orosco pitch for the Twins in 2003, a literal QUARTER CENTURY after they were teammates in the minors!
The Twins first-round pick in 1978 was Lenny Faedo. They also selected Willmar native Wade Adamson and Bloomington native Kent Hrbek that year.
Hey @MLBPA FYI, a salary cap is what MOST fans want. You will still get rich and more teams will have a chance. Most fans also want a floor to keep teams from tanking every year.
A moment of silence, as we honored the wonderful life of a great man/mentor/coach/father/grandfather/husband/author/fan & ALL AROUND GREAT MAN during tonight’s playoff ballgame! Sabers come out victorious, 5-3 on a beautiful night at The Joe!! @Sammelchior1
Fred Bruckbauer was born in New Ulm on this date in 1938. He made one appearance with #MNTwins in 1961, giving up three runs without recording an out, giving him a career ERA of "infinity" (or undefined).
Remarkably, he's not the only player born in New Ulm with an infinite MLB ERA: New Ulm's Doc Hamann gave up six runs without recording an out in his only major league appearance in 1922.
1953 St. Paul Washington graduate, Golden Gophers two-sport athlete, nine-year major leaguer, and legendary University of Arizona coach Jerry Kindall was born on this date in 1935.
The Cubs thought so highly of the young shortstop that they considered moving Ernie Banks to third.
Wadena, MN native & @FMRedHawks Ace Jake Dykhoff (@JakeDykhoff) Transferred to Baltimore Orioles Organization.
RedHawks manager Chris Coste (@chriscoste27) said,
“A lot of us shed tears because I’ve known Jake since he was 14 and his family and things like that...When you see that, it’s a huge moment. Motivation and encouragement for not just our team, especially our own players, but even your opponents see it. And when guys get signed out of our league, every player in our league knows it, they see it, and it gives everybody hope.”
