When the Germans invade in 1940 Charles-André Schommer and his family flee to the US, where he enlists in 1943. Due to his language skills he is assigned to the military intelligence of the 29th Division. On D-Day, he wades ashore on Omaha Beach with the 2nd wave.

5/6 Jean Reiffers is the 4th Luxembourger to join "Commando Kieffer" of the Free French Naval Forces in 1943 as a volunteer, alongside Félix Peters and the Neven brothers. On #DDay he lands with them at Ouistreham and is injured that day. He passes away on 25/8/1993.

Félix Peters leaves 🇱🇺 in 1941. In 1944, he is part of "Commando Kieffer" of the Free French Naval Forces. He lands near Ouistreham on D-Day. The unit is involved in heavy fighting and in mid-June, Peters is KIA near Amfreville, seemingly in a friendly fire incident.

3/6 Jean-Bernard Ney (1921-2003) joins the Free French Air Force in 1942 as a navigator and participates in smoke-laying missions on D-Day to protect the invasion fleet from German bombardment. In all, he participates in 76 sorties.

On D-Day, the brothers Neven land near Ouistreham with the French "Commando Kieffer". Jean Neven is KIA near Flissingen on 1/11/1944. Antoine joins the 🇱🇺 army after the war. He passes away on 23/09/1994.
