@andrewjgiles The situation has not changed for international PhD students who have been stuck in limbo for years and may lose their scholarships. What needs to be checked in a students background that takes years? Please hear our voice. @ClareONeilMP@JasonClareMP@dfat@SenatorWong

@florezcata@SBSNews Thank you for following up on our concern. As one of #Iranian_students who submitted his visa application on January 2020, it is frustrating to be still waiting for a visa. I was planning on resigning from my job and focus on my studies. However, we are #still_waiting_for_visa.
Almost 300 Iranian PhD students are waiting on average a year without any response on their student visa applications, after receiving scholarships to Australian universities. Academics warn we risk losing out on crucial research.
My story tonight @SBSNews
The International Community of Iranian Academics (#ICOIA) sent an urgent letter co-signed by more than a hundred Australian academics to Home Affairs Minister @ClareONeilMP and Immigration Minister @andrewjgiles calling for “ministerial action” on the issue of PhD visa delays
@SBSAudio Many Iranian PhD students have been kept in limbo without any idea of when will this nightmare end? Plz expedite the visa processing before we lose our hard-earned achievements. @ClareONeilMP@andrewjgiles
An academic-led campaign is calling on the Australian government to take swift action to resolve “apparently systemic” visa delays impacting international PhD candidates with scholarships from entering the country.

📢 Media report on the significant visa delays Iranian PhDs face. A huge shoutout to ICOIA Australasia members for their invaluable contributions in preparing official communication to Home Affairs & DFAT. Together, we push for a fair & swift resolution. https://t.co/T4gM0tnfL5

@j_laurenceson Pakisani as we as Iranian PhD students are very depressed as years has passed but visa application status is still ' further assessment'. And when call to DHA, answer is security check. We care, follow and respect rules but 2 years processing for 3 years study visa is not fair.
A concerted effort by Australian immigration officials to process foreign doctoral candidates’ stalled visa applications appears to have achieved nothing for those at the front of the queue. https://t.co/ReSHHmopwR
@timeshighered@JohnRoss49 Several Pakistani students are still waiting and most of them are 2022 applicant. Waiting, hoping, but process without update is very tense. Thanks for being voice!
