How did we get to be $39 trillion in debt?
The zombie filibuster—coupled with a chronic unwillingness among senators to break through it by putting in the hard work—has contributed to it substantially.
For decades, this dynamic has been giving Senate Democrats way too much power when it comes to spending bills—even when they’re in the minority.
Spending bills in the Senate routinely get to 60 votes—regardless of who’s in the majority and who controls the House and the White House—with votes coming from (1) basically every Senate Democrat and (2) a much smaller group of Republicans (predominantly members of the Appropriations Committee), in many cases just a few more than whatever it takes to achieve cloture.
As a result, disagreements on spending bills tend to be resolved by simply spending more—to give those voting for it what they need to vote for it.
This is one of many reasons why I’ve been pushing so hard on the talking filibuster which, if fully utilized and given the time it needs to work, could help us pass the SAVE America Act.
But the benefits wouldn’t end there, as they could help us avoid not only the kind of shutdown hell we’re now experiencing, but also rein in our debt and deficit—at least while Republicans are in charge.
Share if you’d like to see the Senate use the talking filibuster—to fully fund DHS, to pass the SAVE America Act, to reduce spending, and otherwise!
I contacted both my senators, both republicans, urging them to get the SAVE act passed. One gave me a run around, the other didn’t bother to answer at all!!!!
Myself and @ScottPresler are in South Dakota doing all we can to urge @LeaderJohnThune to keep the SAVE America Act on the floor of the Senate until we get it passed.
If you haven’t called your senators to urge them to pass the SAVE America Act, do so now!
It takes all of us.

So this idea to do a parish mission at an earlier time sparked a bit of conversation & some blowback.
But I wasn’t posting it out of my mere selfish desire to go to a parish mission. I likely won’t go to my parish’s mission this year, anyway, because it starts at 7, and it’s with a priest I’ve heard speak before. So if I have to choose between being home for dinner & bedtime or the mission with a talk I’ve likely heard, I’m choosing home.
But this was what was told to me, last year, at the end of a parish mission I spoke at.
A mom came up to me on the last night & lamented that she & her husband had to split up attending the mission, because one parent had to stay home with the kids. A mission beginning at 7 meant they wouldn’t be home til 8:30, maybe, and kids wouldn’t be in bed before 9. And with a 6 o’clock wake up the next morning, that wasn’t feasible for their family.
Parishes offer a lot of things, and not everything is for everyone, sure. But a parish wide Lenten mission, especially one billed as “THE EVENT” of Lent, should be accessible to the widest range of folks.
Scheduling something maybe even just a half hour earlier, so a family could come together, isn’t too much to ask.
That mission in Maryland, with the mom who only came to one night, was a 7 pm start. We had a full house each night. But few families. A few weeks later, I did a mission in Texas. We started by 6, and live streamed it each night as well, and it was also packed. And a lot of folks who came straight from work went out together after for food & fellowship.
The earlier time worked for everyone.
As Super Bowl Sunday approaches, it’s the perfect time to reshare our pro-life commercial that was deemed TOO TOUGH for the NFL.
Just days before airing, Ad Network "Reach TV" canceled it. They tried to silence the truth.
Will you help us make it heard? Share this pro-life ad they didn’t want you to see.
WATCH: Speaker Mike Johnson just shared a personal & heartfelt story at the March for Life
"I was the product of an unplanned teen pregnancy, and I am so eternally grateful that my mom and dad ignored all the people who told them to just take care of that problem."
"They chose to embrace life and to have me."
Wow, I had no idea about this. Imagine the satisfaction his mother felt watching him thrive in life, knowing she made the right decision.
I will always stand for LIFE!
Candy and I are praying for all of those attending the March for Life today!
May God continue to give each of you the courage, conviction, and voice to boldly stand with the unborn.
So grateful to you JJ @LockdownJ_ and all the other @HerdFB players who were planning to represent the Green in Shreveport. What a wasted opportunity…not playing in a highly regarded bowl. Thank you for your loyalty and commitment. You will always be a true son of Marshall.
