@NopeSignal The take way is what I’ve been saying for the last year… ticket sales have only rebounded to 60% of pre-pandemic levels. Less people are going to the movies. The “meh” movies no longer print money. People are way more selective. It’s way too expensive
@KeyWatkins51299 And it’s even worse because Man of Steel came out in peak superhero movie interest and Supergirl is hitting at a time where clearly that interest has dwindled and just “okay” movies aren’t gonna make 500+ million.
@soleasfirework I fear this is most movies now a days for most people. I went from going to 3-5 movies a year to 2 total since COVID. Something like only 60% of ticket sales have recovered. A lot of people simply wait for streaming now.
@restoreZSJL@xsphyre Ticket prices in 2025 are a bit under 2x (seen numbers generally in the 30-40% range) what they were pre-Covid. Which means raw audience they would need that much less tickets sold to reach a billion, or whatever movie gross you’re comparing it too.
@restoreZSJL@xsphyre You have 2 super hero movie on there. Also you can look up for example and see that Way of Water generated somewhere in the 60-80% ticket sales as the first movie. Tickets are just more expensive driving up gross box office revenue. Again, ticket sales are lower, it’s a fact.
@sakcore18 Movies in general or sort of dead. Superhero’s just taking the brunt of it. Why would I spend $50 when tickets and food is included when I can stream it at home in 2 months. I went from seeing 3-5 movies a year to seeing 2 movies in theaters total since 2020.
@brookeab 2 BO5 is unnecessary imo. have to go back and look, but how often did Loser bracket reset and then team from winners bracket win the second BO5? They’ve lost momentum at that point.
I’d propose 1- BO9. Winners bracket team starts with 1 map advantage. They need 4. Loser 5.
@HoopsHeadLo@FanAkko All 3 of which did worse at the box office than a movie like Thor the Dark World. And no one with a straight face can argue Thor The Dark World is better than any of those 3 movies. Fatigue is real. Theyre no longer money printers.
@jobhutz Audiences just aren’t going to superhero movies in general. If you’re not Batman, Spider-Man or Avengers you’re not selling a billion in box office anymore. They’re streaming movies now. It’s simple as that. And studios will have to adjust to that new reality
@CornetaRavens Problem is movies can be rented for $20 in 2 months now. Can watch with whole family. Have my own food. All for $20. The movie industry is broken and box office numbers reflect that.
@bdog0698 Superhero fatigue is very real. Minus a stacked cast or major character… they’re all just streaming movies now. Haven’t seen a superhero movie in theaters since Endgame, minus FF. And FF was simply because I got rained out at beach last year. It was a watch at home movie tbh.
@JamesPrescott77 Real conversations need to be had about superhero fatigue simply being very real. Since COVID… other than the massive ones they simply don’t draw. For good reason… they’re now honeslty all watch at home movies. I can wait 2 months and spend $20 at home to watch this.
@mjarbo And I’m not specifically singling out Supergirl. Since COVID I’ve watched 2 movies in theaters. Top Gun Maverick and Fantastic Four. And FF was simply because we got rained out at the beach and had nothing else to do.
I used to go see 3-5 movies a year in theaters.
@mjarbo It’s amazing how now one ever really considers this. In 2 months I can rent the movie on my TV at home for $20 total. Whole family can watch. Food here. I simply wait for 80%+ of movies now because it’s not longer 6+ months before I can see them.
@Rebel0fReality Personally the reviews have been in line with what I expected. A campy superhero movie that is mostly coherent but not perfect.
TBH… expected for me. That was my personal opinion on all GOTG movies. All campy but fun to me. None of them stood out as memorable. Even 3.
@SirBylHolte I honeslty don’t understand in general now for movies, these always only consider box office. There is no way they don’t factor in streaming revenue. A lot of people simply just don’t see movies anymore because they can stream in 2-6 months.
Idk how the calculus changes.
