Which of these are in your Halloween rotation?
…or as a triple bill with Hear the Song of the Wind (1982) by #HarukiMurakami & #KazukiŌmori - https://t.co/dYSmKEYcF2 – again recommended, but much lighter than the other two…
Almost Transparent Blue (1979) by #RyuMurakami – This evenings viewing… not the best copy… possibly a VHS rip… first time I’ve seen it with English Subtitles…

Ryu Murakami left behind one of the greatest bodies of literary work of any writer this generation. Almost Transparent Blue and In the Miso Soup are two of my favorite novels ever. More than any other writer, Murakami’s work had a hard boiled literary reportage even as the the content embraced aspects of surrealism and weird fiction. Furthermore, he wrote in a style that shunned flowery prose in favor of a pared down but highly physical intensity that channeled the feeling of the best thriller movies. One of a kind writer, I’ll miss him.
