For #Tolkien ‘s birthday today, I’ll be diving into this beautiful little leather-bound box set of “The World of Tolkien” from @DavidDayBooks. 📚 🐉 🧙🏼♂️ “Elen síla lúmenn’ omentielvo!” ✨
As devoted as I am to 1980s pop culture, #StElmosFire was never on my radar. Maybe it was the dreaded “Rated R” (strictly forbidden in our house). It certainly wasn’t the plot - at 16, I was OBSESSED with “college kids.” 🧵
There was a time-machine moment that struck me: when the Brat Pack realizes one of their friends is becoming a #Republican, and they just sort of shrug, change the subject, and move on with their lives. God, what a time it was. 🧵
Rainy, lazy day = 80s feel-good nostalgia movies in bed.
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” 🍿
Oh, and watching it in @4dxusa didn’t hurt. Seats bumping and swaying, water and smoke spraying all around—it was an immersive ride, my favorite time at the movies this year. A ‘guilty pleasure’ minus the guilt. Can’t wait to see it again!
I can’t even think about #DefyingGravity yet… I’m still processing #GladiatorII !
Fans of the original aren’t loving the new one. I think that’s why it affected me so differently. The first film never really stuck with me - chalk it up to where my head was at back in 2000?
...propelling our new hero from warrior to slave to #gladiator , and ultimately face-to-face with emperors in an audacious “more is more” retelling of the original story. It’s cyclical on purpose. It’s not meant to feel grounded. It’s meant to feel mythical.
